How to tell if infection is going away. Question for those who've dealt with bumblefoot issues.

Hello all. I have been treating my RIR roo for a missing toenail that became infected. The first time, I squeezed the infection out, bandaged him, I made the mistake of just letting him back out with the girls. The toe swelled up even larger and I had to do it over a week later. I...

    Swollen toes on roo/frostbite?

Hello all. I noticed my RIR roo seemed unsteady on his feet at times, especially when he tries to sit down or lay out in the grass. I concluded his spurs probably needed trimming. He is an awesome roo, and calm around people, so I usually don't remember his spurs till he is high stepping over...

Gonna redo my coop to a more open air style-Questions/advice

Hello all. For some time, I have kept my chickens in the back portion of my mini barn. It is a separate 2'x10 area. At one time, I only had 2 hens and 1 roo. this worked fine until a neighbor gave me 4 more hens over the summer. They only use the coop to roost/lay/eat, and have plenty of run...

Ever just "mess" with your chickens, ducks, geese?

As in mess with their heads? One of my favorite things before the coop had electricity, was go into the coop at night. Say, oh, 9 or 10 pm. Stand in front of the roost and flip open my cell phone. Weird oohs and puzzled cooing. Then, ringtone selection came next..... maybe I'm just weird....

Coop idea. What do you guys and girls think?

Hello all! I'm a newbie here, but not to birds. I have built and rebuilt coops, always improving them trying to achieve that impossible perfect coop. I know, I know. Every situation and setup is different, along with personal preferences. So, my preferences are ease of maintenance, easy to...

    New from TN!

Hello all! I stumbled across this site a couple weeks ago. Love it! I am 30 and have grown up around/with flightless feathered friends (and some that could fly). My parents got a pair of white rocks(I think) when I was about 5 or so yrs old, and after 4-h, I got even more involved in chickens. I...
