    chicken coop problems

Slanted (20 degrees or so) will help prevent water from running back under the roof and damaging structure and leaking inside. Make sure you have a ridge cap or such thing along the highest edge. As far as what material... Any good quality roofing material should be fine if you attach it well...

    Chickens not going outside

I had this problem last year. I watched for a while and realized that they were sliding on the ramp between the cleats. Instead of adding a bunch more cleats, I just carpeted the ramp with some left over berber style carpet. They got good traction and took right to climbing up and down.

I just want a few more chicks.

I'm sure this is covered elsewhere, but I couldn't locate it. Are there any hatcheries that will sell just a few birds. I only know a few people that I can split an order with, and none of them want more than a couple new birds. Thanks

I need some breed selectyion advice

Hi all. It's been a while since I dropped by the forum. I seem to only hang around when I have a problem or something to brag about. The local animal control folk dropped the hammer on my free ranging birds, so today I split my yard in half with four foot mesh. I will be clipping wings and...

When life gives you lemons... add pepper

Thanks AK. It was a bit tough. What ratio of salt to water?

When life gives you lemons... add pepper

I've been being woken up at around 4 A.M by a rather confused rooster for the last week or so. Tonight I made the best out of this situation, by making dinner out of my pre-dawn friend. It was the first of my birds that I've butchered and eaten. I must say, I've had better chicken, but I had...

Chickens growing faster than new coop (Pics)

They're not in it yet. Still have a handful of things to finish, and only a little spare time in the day to do it.

    using drywall in the coop

I'm sure you will get more qualified opinions than mine, but I would avoid it. My chicks peck at anything that looks different than surroundings. So as soon as you got a scratch or small hole in the drywall, I think they would slowly demolish the whole area.

Thanks dixygirl The upside to being an picky retentive engineer with no social life is that you get to build cool stuff, the downside is that my chickens may die of old age before I finish. Bob

My coop before I decorated and me and some of my girls

I'm in Fayetteville AR now, but I still visit that way every once in while. Yeah I'm familiar with your neck of the woods, just past CR27 on Cannie Baker Rd. there's a big pond where we used to hang out and feed the ducks, geese, and a really cool albino peacock.

My coop before I decorated and me and some of my girls

Hey mtnhomechick, I grew up just outside of Mtn. Home. I'm actually from Viloa, but I spent all my time in Mtn. Home because it had cool things like paved roads and traffic lights. Bob

Chickens growing faster than new coop (Pics)

Finally got some new pics. This is the project that will never end. Every day I have time to work, it rains. I got half way through shingling the roof and blew my knee out. The chickens are now inside my storage shed, and my motorcycle and lawnmower are out in the weather. These chickens had...

Chickens growing faster than new coop (Pics)

Sorry for the slow updates. An old friend popped into town and there was a bit too much margaritas and sleeping in, and too little coop building. The tile is now down and grouted. I had left over Italian porcelain from my bathroom remodel, but I doubt if my chickys will ever know how nice...

    Arkansas folks speak up.........

Thanks, I saw the Bob in your picture and was wondering if that was your name or the roo's. Now I know. As far as what chicks I got... best guess so far is barred rocks, black australorps, white rocks, arucana mix, dark cornish, and or welsummers (I doubt any are pure bread). There are a...

The tile is now down, but it was starting to rain, so I had to cover it before I got a pic. Hopefully I'll get to work on it tomorrow.

Hello all. I'm in downtown Fayetteville. It's nice to know that there are several of you around.... I'm not really sure why it's nice, but it is. Bob

Chickens growing faster than new coop (Pics)

Just thought I'd post the first couple pics of my new coop. If I don't hurry, my little ones will be laying eggs in the brooder I'm just building this onto a storage shed in my back-yard. I haven't decided exactly how I want to integrate the existing window into the plan. Maybe I'll put a...

    HELP! leaking!

Some leaks in metal are caused by the nails backing out a bit. If you can wiggle the suspect nail with some pliers, go ahead and pull it out and replace it with a slightly bigger nail or better yet a screw. Be careful not to dent the roofing, as that would most likely accelerate leaking. Then...
