I processed one of my ducks today. She had a leg injury and was in pain. Upon plucking the injured side I noticed buising of lett back and severe bruising to left thigh and leg. I am wondering if I the bruised meat is ok to eat. IF NOT do I trim it off or is bird ruined
I have a 7 month old free range Salmon Faverolles Roo who during daylight is "normal" in every aspect. When it is bedtime he goes in the coop and he gets wierd. He paces under all the perches with his head turned so one eye is straight up. I thought he may have been just checkin out who he...
We recently bought a "package deal" set of 4 chickens a lady needed gone. I named this one PINEY as I think it looks like a pine cone that has opened. Anyway we keep Standard LF and aren't familiar with these little ones...
A few months ago I tried incubating some Silver Appleyard over Jumbo Pekin cross eggs. Much to my dismay the eggs turned out to be infertile. :barnie So I set another batch last Friday. I candled them today and they are developing nicely. :fl Some have odd air cell. Instead of nice straight...
Well here I go round 2! Tryin a new (for me) mix. Tryng to cross my Silver Appleyard Drake with my Jumbo Pekin Hens. I am on day 7 and all eggs are developing. First batch was 100% dud but maybe this time will take.?.?

A few months ago I "lost" my Jumbo Pekin Drake. While searching for another I found a Silver Appleyard Drake and was dazzled by his plumage and style so I got him. I've only hatched from my Jumbos twice and had great results each time. I just put 8 crossed duck eggs in the bator as a test run...
Hi guys, just wanted to touch base with others who have used the " GENESIS" digital bator before this years hatch season. I used mine once 2 years ago (took a year off) but it was honestly the most booring hatch with the most problems i i have ever had. I missed waking at 2am to pee and...
After bringing home a new bird there has been a respiratory bug moving through my flock of free range birds. New one was isolated and bug still got around!! It lasts about a week and resolves with meds in water. After that birds are ok.
HERE IS THE QUESTION , Do I need to lock my flock as in...
I have been looking for information online detailing the breed standards of Barred Plymouth Rock chickens without any success. I have only found general info, nothing detailed. If anyone knows where I can get good detailed info online please let me know. Thanx
I have never even thought about hatching and raising Bobwhite Quail, but 30 eggs come with the Genesis 1588 I just ordered so what the hay!!!

We mix layer crumbles and scratch grains 2:1. & they pick out scratch leaving layer behind. I tried pellets also with no success, same thing. All birds are free range from 6 a.m. til they decide to go in. They forage as they please on 2 acres. As it is cooling off and fewer bugs to eat, i would...
I have been participating in local swaps for a few years now. Recently at a local swap a family stopped at my tent to look at my chickens. They told me I did not have what they were looking for however they wanted to "commend" me. I asked what they meant. They replied that I was the ONLY...
Hey Everyone! Julio's swap is in 2 days and I haven't seen anyone post if they will be coming and what they will be bringing.
I will be there and I will be bringing just a few 1.5 month old chicks. Hope to see all of the "usuals" and some new faces as well!
Looking at RI WHITES as a new project. We are sun up to sun down free range farm in central Florida. Any advice or comments on this breed are totally appreciated! Thanx in advance!!!!
'Twas a hot September Saturday at the livestock swap at the TSC in Dunnellon, Fl. I came with 16 chicks and had only 3 bantams left. I sat and sweated patiently as time ticked by and my fellow swappers began to pack up. It was now 1:30. I thought "what a great swap, I can live with taking 3 back...
My 6 month old BO hen just started laying. Today I noticed that one of her eyes changed color from amber to grey! The eye appears healthy, reacts to light, and blinks or moves if I put my finger too close to it. Anybody seen this b4? Odd how it just changed now at 6 m/o not as a chick.
