Hello all,
I have a black sexlink whose comb is turning black The last hen that had this died the next day..... I do not think it is frostbite as I live in the Tucson, AZ and it only gets into the 40's at night. They are in their coop with all open areas covered with canvas. Do you think this...
She has not laid an egg in 5 days. I checked her out last night and she does have an egg in the abdomen. How do you know for sure if they are egg bound? She has never gone for 5 days with no egg. BUT, she is not displaying any symptoms of egg bound other than not laying an egg. What causes this...

Well i got an egg from her on the 17th but not sure if she laid one yesterday so i don't think that was the case. she normally would go for a day without laying an egg every few days or so.....
I forgot to say... My main concern is my other 6. They all look fine and seem very healthy. Do you think it could have been the egg laying process gone bad and caused some kind of internal problems??
My 5 month old white leghorn just died in my arms:( R.I.P. Ethel... anywho, I noticed yesterday that her comb was becoming floppy and falling over and becoming dark tinged on the edges. She was not in her usual nest box either. Today i came home to check on them, and she was laying on the ground...
Yes, Well put! I am very new to this and did not know much about the breed.
I am mainly looking for excellent layers so I don't really care if they are purebred, mutts or whatever. I just want lots of nice big eggs. Although I would love a roo, I cannot have one because law here says no roos...
Thanks everyone! I aggree, it is a he. he has long arched pointy tail feathers. Taking him back tomorrow! What is an easter egger versus an americana? I thought Americanas WERE ee's.
Here was my barred rock roo: See how his whites stripes are broader? This makes him look more grey.
Here is my pullet: Her black stripes are broader, makingher look more black. This is pretty much the standard for this breed. Roo is lighter and hen is darker.

Well, considering the first 2 pics are the same bird I think it is kind of hard to be a hen and a roo! Haha The first pic was taken 1 month ago and the second pic was taken today. The comb grew that...

I would say hen too since no crowing but the comb is so much bigger than the other leghorn of same age.... the first pic is the same bird as the 2nd pic only the first pic was taken exactly 1 month ago. His comb got HUGE in 1 month and the others are still pretty small.
