My Chinese Mandarin ducklings! This is the first year we have EVER not been able to sell our Mandarins. Are more people breeding them? Is it the economy? I know they will eventually sell, but until this year, I've had a waiting list and sold them emediately. Weird and frustrating.

We love our Anconas from Holderread's. They are reasonably calm but not lap ducks or anything. They wander the barn yard during the day and often take naps in the barn. If we walk by they will just calmly walk the other way. They come running when I have a bucket in my hand at feeding time...

Our ducks free range during the day for forage. So, I feed them in the evening when I call them to thier pen. I let them eat all they could possibly want till I'm done with my farm chores. (about an hour) Then I take the feed away. By morning, they are hungry and ready to fill up on bugs...

From what I understand from Story's Guide to Raising Ducks, it is the shortened day and NOT the temperature, that reduces some ducks egg laying frequency. Put out a light bulb and they will lay.
