One year into my egg selling empire and here is the final tally:
eggs collected 4938
dozens sold 321
dozens eaten 71
gifted 174 eggs
damaged eggs 59
feed used 1096 quarts
Total costs 1500.00
Total income: 960.00
Balance: -540.00
hmmm, might take me another year to get up to "rich" status...
it took me some time, but I got to take over the whole stall :)
I'm up to 36 girls and planning to expand again at some point. I can't keep up with the demand for fresh eggs.

I get a little bit of dripping out of my nipple waterer. Nothing a small catch pan or drip cups can't take care of.
Y'all have me curious now about cost of operation. I have one of these http://www.amazon.com/P3-International-P4400-Electricity-Monitor/dp/B00009MDBU
I'll hook it up and see...
At 1500 watts it should work. It's going to be expensive to run though. The purchase price and electric cost is going to be a lot more than aquarium heater. Think of it like running three brooder lights simultaneously.
why would it be expensive to run? Once it reaches it's whatever temp it's...
I just purchased a bucket heater from tractor supply

safe for plastic buckets, and puts the heat right over the nipples.
I'll let you know how it makes out.

S.L.Swope :
can you pm me the way to make that chart. It's totaly awesome! I don't really count my coop in the cost because my grandmother donated the funds for my newest hobby! She's totally into the sustainable living and thought she would help me afford to start up my flock!
I have it on...

I have approx 30 hens. plus 12 that aren't laying, but I get average 16 per day now. Times 7 that's days is...
Well, there goes my bottom line. I've got a missing hen. Did my usual PM count and I kept coming up 1 short. I didn't see any feathers or dead chicken. No sign of a struggle, so I have to assume she went AWOL. I checked most of the trees. . . nothing. I've just got to hope she shows up...
