Question... are you bringing new chickens into a new coop with no other chickens? That is how I read your post. We actually kept our chicks in the house for the first two weeks. We kept them in a large dog crate with light to help warm them and made sure they had plenty of water and feed. We did...
I grew up around people that had chickens in So Cal many moons ago. My husband and I are now raising our first harem of ladies much further north from there. We can't legally have roos where we currently live. I don't mind as I remember what the banty roos were like that resided at my best...
Thanks to all for the wonderful welcome! Someone asked my about blaming my husband? Simply because if it wasn't for him we would never have gotten those darn chickens! Can't complain, though. The best therapy is chicken therapy I have recently learned...
I had never liked birds before. Parakeets, cockatiels and other birds really seemed to hate me and saw me as their cuttle bone. I have recently been introduced into the world of "raising chickens." I went to the post office to pick them up, gave them their first water, and fed them their first...
First thing I thought of (with the appropriate music in the background)
Kill the racoon
Kill the racoon
Kill the racoon
Kill the 'coon!
No, I don't hate critters. I just don't like critters that prey on my critters! If they are going to be served as dinner I would prefer them on my plate...
Still blaming all this on my husband. It's all his fault. I never would have been introduced to this wonderful facet of life if it wasn't for him. That being said, my life will never be the same again! I love those feathery little critters and wouldn't go back to the way things were before... We...
Well, chickens have been around a lot longer as a species than we have. I hope they know what temp really works for them. If you are really worried about them being too cold then I would ensure you can lock them into the coop. However, I think they will get along just fine! Let them be chickens...
First, I want it to be known that this is ALL my husband's fault. I grew up around chickens... my friends and neighbors had chickens but the only interaction I had with chickens was dealing with my friend's roos. Nasty critters with only chaos on their minds.
My DH took a trip back to his...
My friend had a couple of roos but had to "pass" them onto a friend that would dispatch of them in a quiet manner. We can't have roos in town and can't truly have the number of hens in the coop we have at the moment!
