if you have a sams club or costco or BJ's or something like that there the prices on bulk meat is sometimes cheaper. I support meat for 9 people with 350 bucks a month. the only thing we buy on a weekly basis is bread, and eggs. Im starting up chickens again so we can stop buying eggs and use...
I have 6 week old barred rock chicks. They are not completly feathered out yet. Im not even sure if i got pullets or roos. i bought 10 of them and 3 died the first day i brought them home and i have no idea, they had food and water, That is beside the point. Anyway, I need to know when it is ok...

jenmiller, make up a printed bill and take it to the neighbor. No telling if you'll get paid but here are some "going rates" for chickens:
chicks under 20 weeks (4 1/2 mo), and old birds that don't lay anymore $5.00 each
20 weeks to 1 yr old, getting ready to lay, or just barely laying...

i let them out in the mornng and when i went to go feed them a snack in the late afternoon it was like chickens...
Ive been using hay for my coop. It gets pretty nasty fairly quickly. My husband has taken up a new hobby of making bowls and he hand turns them which produces a serious amount of wood shavings. More then what we know what to do with. Can i use that as the coop floor? or does it have to be...
I totally would take pictures but i wont have a camera untill christmas, hopefully! Not even a phone to where i can upload pictures. Ill try to explain. My inside box right now is a 10 gal aquarium. i have 2 of them and 5 quail in one of them, and 5 in the other. They are lined with papertowels...

i have 10 of them and the brooder is an aquarium. i have a choice between the plastic container and a cage with holes that are like 2inch x 1inch. Will that be sufficent or should i find a smaller one bc im no sure i have a cage with smaller wire right now, and the storage container i...
i was moving them from an aquarium to a plastic container outside, but i wanted to make sure they were healthy and feathered out before i did that and killed them on accident. I think i am just going to go on with it and keep an eye on them until i know they are okay where they are.
i have a 60 watt light on them. They are feathered out and i also found that they piled on top of eachother to get warm and killed bunches of them. I dont know what to do b/c if i put a higher light on them they seem to die and if i put a smaller light on them they die to try and stay warm...
okay so here is the thing. They are in the house, extended part of the house and it is kinda cold in there sometimes. They stay huddled under the light even in that room inside with the light on them. Im not really sure why. Which is why i was weary about putting them outside.
Would one light with like a 100 watt bulb be okay for a long container?? Or should i get more then one light?? Also im thinking about making a cage enclosed on 3 sides and then extend it out so they have room to run around (this is for when all of the little ones are grown fully and i intriduce...
They are about 4 or 5 weeks old i believe. The outside temp has gotten down to like 30 some odd degrees at night and as high as 70 during the day now is the avg. I have about 10 little quails.
I wasnt planning on working them all winter. I just wanted to know if i was simply doing something...
it has a wire bottom and im pretty sure i can wipe it out with bleach water and it should be fine. Should i keep heat lamps on them all the time?? and i have grown quail that arnt laying at all....feeding problem or light deficiency problem???
i have a gianormous plastic storage container that i used for baby chicks...can i use it for quail to put inside a shed to keep them warm but still get used to outside temps??
uhm they are lik 30 wks old but none of them have the dark red combs. Could that be my fault?? I just changed thier feed to laying feed and they seem to be getting fatter and their combs are getting bigger. I have 2 Catalanas, a Dominique Rooster, maybe 5 or 6 white rocks, 5-6 orphingtons and...
Okay so about 2 weeks ago one of my hens like farted an egg or something and i have not seen one since. I tried the whole nesting boxes thing and they just seem to kick out all the filling i put in there and still no egg. Im giving them the correct food fresh water everything and still no more...
