Thanks to everyone who tried to help. The duckling is still alive. This morning I found it swimming in its water bowl and drinking. Its head is still quite swollen, it sleeps alot, and it walks in circles. I am continuing to try to feed it.
Please pardon my expression of anger, but I have to blow off steam or explode:
These eggs were incubated as a favor. I understand that I should be grateful. But if someone is going to do something for you, they should do it right - especially if it involves life. Six little ducklings died in...
I went to pick up my Khaki Campbell ducks that were being incubated for me. What I found was that the eggs had never been moved from the incubator to the hatcher, so one hatched chick was killed by the fan, and another chick had fallen to the bottom of the giant 'bator but appeared to be ok (but...
Until I got the baby bird food today, Albert/a had been getting a 50/50 mix of Pedialyte and water with Polivisol drops, and would take an occasional bite of chick starter gruel. I knew that this would keep him alive, but I also knew he wouldn't grow on just that. So, I was happy to find the...
I have a little runt that is in the brooder with nine of its hatchmates. They are two weeks old now, and Sparky is about half the size of the others. They stomp on him when they get excited, but he holds his own. Since he's learning to stay out of the way, he isolates himself a bit. I don't...
I got the special baby bird formula, and the chick loves it! I didn't want to overfeed it, so I gave one dropper, and I'll give another in about fifteen minutes. Then I'll make a paste and see if it will eat on its own.
Thank you all for answering. I'll post pictures if I can, so you can see...
Cute, cute doggies. My old dog Maggie learned to eat cat poop from my friend's Doberman. I never had to scoop the litter box again. I also never let either of those dogs lick me! :o
Chicken cookies?? Oh, barf!!
Two of the three disabled Spitzhaubens I hatched are getting around better, eating, and growing. The third is not doing so well. I took its booties and brace off this morning, and it just sat there. I fed it uncooked egg yolk (yell at me later about the salmonella risk), and much to my shock...
Thanks for sharing. I'm going to go feed egg to my runt. She's active, but too scrawny. Someone asked about feeding oil to fatten a broiler. I was wondering if oil would work on my runt. How carefully do you have to introduce new, rich foods so they don't get sick?
People, people, people....if your dog is a mutt, like mine, poop-eating is fine. If you paid big bucks for pure-bred dogs, you need to have a nice long chat with them. They betray their pedigrees when they eat poop. Chicken Kiev, yes. Chicken poop, no.
