Northern Fowl Mite? Red Mite? Suggestions for products to break infestation?

Resistance has been developing to ivermectin but I'm not sure how widespread it is amongst bird mites though. Moxidectin is even safer. Both bind GABA receptors which birds and mammals (probably all vertebrates) do not have outside the brain. The blood-brain barrier and efflux pumps are quite...

Northern Fowl Mite? Red Mite? Suggestions for products to break infestation?

Get a tube of "Quest" moxidectin with or without praziquantel off of eBay. Give each adult chicken an amount equal to roughly 2-4 rice grains once or twice a week. It did such a good job on leg mites that I felt like a war criminal. There's no withdrawal time for cattle so it's likely the same...

There's a forum for trail cameras (Chasing Game or something like that) where you can read about them ad nauseam.

I actually checked on bhphotovideo before posting that and clicked on a few Canon DSLR items that weren't body-only such as this one: http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/914091-REG/canon_digital_rebel_t3i_18_55mm_is.html Quote: The last time I got a memory card with a new camera...

A trail camera tells you what and where something needs to be killed. The driveway alert tells you when. All of my trail cameras can take bursts of 3-4 photos in 1 second intervals and with a minimal refractory period before being triggered again. The value can be set as low as 0 seconds but...

I haven't heard of any trail cameras coming with a memory card. Even Canon DSLRs don't come with them unless the retailer tries to make up a kit including a lame tripod and cleaning kit. I'd rather just use a card I already have rather than paying $20 for one.

Moultrie Panoramic 150. It has 3 sensors and a swiveling camera to cover 150 deg which I think is a lot better for surveillance duty. So far, people seem very satisfied with it. I have two Bushnells and I don't consider to be good values. It seems you can buy the top of the line Moultrie for the...

should I follow thru with animal control complaint

Taking the dog would be theft which carries criminal penalties which I would find more worrisome than being sued for hurting someone's feelings (aka butthurt).

Mean Kittens Bloodied my Hen :(

Anything you can do to a rat you can do to a cat.

Mean Kittens Bloodied my Hen :(

There is no "right to roam act" and cats are shot all the time for bothering livestock. Legal or not, if you're discrete you can just kill and dispose of them in whatever manner is most convenient for you.

De-Pluming Mites VERY effective Treatment I stumbled across!!!

I just put moxidectin in their food and metronidazole in their water and that takes care of mites and all common worms. Oddly, metronidazole works on mites though the mechanism is unknown.

    Rabid fox vs barn cat

Mangy-looking fox probably has...mange which is caused by mites not rabies. Coming around during the day is also no diagnosis of rabies.

Dogs attacking my chickens . . . again

The dogs' owners could probably find out who shot them if they filed a FOIA request or state equivalent. It's been used by cat hoarders in the past to find out who was trapping their cats and delivering them to the pound.

    Cat killed my Silkie!

I use foothold traps, pre-charged pneumatic air rifles in .25 cal, motion detectors, and trail cameras. Footholds work a lot better than cage traps. As long as you use the appropriate size and check the traps daily, they are no more damaging than cage traps. Use the trail cameras to identify...

    Life Cycle of Mites/Lice?

It depends on the species. I know some can go months without a blood meal. They will also be carried in by wild animals as well as any new birds you get.

Neighbor's Dogs Killed Entire Flock & Donkey

    Do cats kill chickens?

Well, cats were introduced by man and are now a subsidized invasive species with its own lobbying groups. It takes 10 years to get a logging permit but your cat can kill all the endangered species it wants. Complaints about man's damage to the ecosystem can be addressed by "unintroducing"...

2 of my beloved Hens dead after Permectrin treatment for mites!!! :(

Sounds like spraying them directly with it did them in. The active ingredient shouldn't be that toxic but uses petroleum distillates as an emulsifier/solubilizer so the "inactive" ingredients may actually be more dangerous than the active ingredient. They do say not to inhale it or allow it to...

    Do cats kill chickens?

Cats are called the serial killers of the animal world. If you really love animals you would kill one to save many. If it's not the neighbor's cat then he or she won't miss it when it disappears. Talking to the cats' owners won't help nor will appealing to any sort of government entity. You...

    Deterring Feral Cats

TNR people are very against relocating ferals. Once they start putting food on your property they won't stop. Neither they nor the cats will ever leave while the food attracts more cats. If you pressure them to stop feeding they'll slash your car tires.
