We sprang for a 10 x 12 shed to transform into a coop for 30 or so chooks. We will be painting and finishing fencing over the next 8-10 weeks.
We are also transforming a thistle and nettle filled wasteland into a small pond and habitat for our 4 ducklings. We found this dog house on Craigslist...
Happy to be back after a long break. I had to sell my beloved flocks 7-8 years ago and am starting a new flock again. I am starting off with a beginning flock of six Swedish Flower chicks.
We also got a bunch of hatchery chicks to start a rainbow selection for the farmers markets in the...
Welcome to Solsken Farm!

What a terrible problem to have. Maggie, I also use an old slide projector. I can never see the veining, only the airsac and some darkness which is the chick. The flip side is I can easily tell the clear eggs......They are see through, practically.
I hope they hatch!

I would vote silkie too, for a therapy pet, but I would really recommend my 2 rescue great...
I do not have polish, but I do have some tame hens in several different breeds. I might part with one. I also have some pullet chicks.
I am just north of Augusta in Vassalboro.

Hi thanks for the thoughts. Yes, I just read that about the myth of touching. In any event, it is very cold here today (high 40s) and it is set to rain tomorrow for the rest of the week. I really don't think I feel right just leaving them there.
So I called a wildlife rehab person and they...
Thanks so much. Any experience with replacing them in the nest once they hatch and dry off? Sadly my little ones had already touched them before they got me. I have a few silkie eggs that were clear that I could go up and put in the nest to try to tempt mom back at one point.
I am nervous...
My kids found somepipping pigeon eggs in a nest up in the barn loft. We watched for an hour and the mom did not come back to the nest. I finally went up and grabbed them as my kids begged for me to save them. (They understand pipping, zipping and all that) One is pipped and appears to have...
