    My hen became a rooster...sorta

Well, at any rate, she's a goner. She's more or less perfected her crow now and the neighbors I'm sure are not happy. Not sure if I can rehome a crowing, non-laying hen...

    My hen became a rooster...sorta

I'll do my best, he/she is tough to catch. It was a sex links too so easy to sex, and wouldn't going on near 2 years be a little strange for a rooster to finally come around? I can't say for sure she's laid in front of me, because all 5 sexlinks used to be identical before this happened, but...

    My hen became a rooster...sorta

Yeah for sure it's not a rooster exactly, but 2 months ago it didn't have wattles like that at all. They've grown like that in the past couple months. She doesn't look anything like her sisters anymore.

    Crowing hen driving me crazy

Roosters are not allowed...but check out the pictures in the thread I just posted. She's now like a transgender rooster :)

    My hen became a rooster...sorta

So apparently I got a super oddball chicken. She is an 18-20 month old red sex-links that has laid eggs until about 2 months ago. So 100% a girl. About a month ago she started roosting up in a tree a night and crowing around 6:45 every morning. So that apparently isn't super unusual for hens...

    Crowing hen driving me crazy

I have a hen who crows very loudly and actually does it pretty well, similar to a rooster but half the volume. She does it every morning around 6:30AM and it's driving me crazy...I'm about to introduce her to the soup pot. So far the neighbors havent said anything, thankfully. Would rehomeing...

Please tell me this isn't Marek's

Never had any other illness or chickens die other than when a hawk got one and an opossum got two. Got the chicks in January and added them to the flock about a month ago I'd say, maybe a month and a half. Thank you so much for the link, I'll look through it right now!

Please tell me this isn't Marek's

Hey everybody, I have a hen that is about 3 months old, purchase in a group of 8. Today I noticed that she is wobbling about, I wouldn't even call it limping, more like fumbling about. Her left leg seems to be injured or not working properly. She sit a lot, and moves around laboriously...

    selling price for eggs?

In Atlanta, I haven't sold any yet, but I guarantee I could get at least $4 per dozen. Heck, I'd pay that. I'd guess going rate for free range, organic eggs would be around $5/doz.

New layer, some issues(soft shell, etc)

Hey guys, the last of my pullets is starting to lay(I think), and I'm going through some of the same ol' getting-things-at-the-new-egg-factory-sorted-out stuff. I have two that are just firing up. One or both are having problems. First I found eggs just laid wherever on the ground or on the...

Barred rock chicks - legs TURNED black but weren't as day-olds??

I've had the leg shading change on me as well. Bought some chicks with dark legs, and one lightened up and became dinner(a roo). :) Also the first two I bought had equal shading and one darkened and was a pullet, and the other stayed the same and was a roo. HTH!

Barred Rock Sexing - Opinions on my 3 chickies Please :)

Look like cockerels to me too, but there's a chance chick 2 could be a pullet. I've had the foot shading change on me, so you never know until a little feathering comes in.

How Long Can I Save Eggs to Hatch?

I put some in a wine cellar for 14 days and they all developed. Temp was 55.7 degrees and 70% humidity. My issue was during hatching, I didn't take into account all the moisture loss from those 14 days, and I should have increased the incubating humidity instead of dry incubating.

Another "chick can't stand" thread...could use some help

I ended up having to cull...poor thing. He could only move backwards, so he kept being stuck in the corner. That made his wings permanently stick out all funny, so I didn't think he had much of a life ahead of him. I did the baking soda and vinegar method. Even though I guess it's painless...

Another "chick can't stand" thread...could use some help

Hey, I just had some Jersey Giants hatch out yesterday, and one sorta got stuck in the shell. So unfortunately this guy has some issues walking. His legs aren't splayed or spraddled per se, but they are definitely not right. They sort of go straight out in front of him, and he can basically...
