My new chicken coop made with pallets

Wow. That's a really nice one. Were a family of 7 (soon to be 8) and eggs are a huge staple in our house. If we get a dozen eggs a day wed be in great shape. And we always have friends willing to buy them if we have an over abundance.

My new chicken coop made with pallets

Thanks. Yeah, free is pretty cheap =) I had all the roofing and chicken wire left over from other projects so really I just had to buy some hardware for the door and the lid and screws and nails. Total cost was about $30.

My new chicken coop made with pallets

I may paint it. But not right now. Time to move on to the 500 other projects on my list =). It'll be a good kid project actually. I'll probably put 'em to work soon.

My new chicken coop made with pallets

Haha! The nest lid holder is #2 of 5 (and one more on the way). The dimensions are roughly 8' L x 6' W x 5' H. The front peak of the roof is about 6.5' high and the back is 5'. I'd still like to add some wheels to it and make it moveable, but it's pretty heavy.

I have an excellent source of pallets that are 8' x 30". This is the coop we just finished today.

What should I cover my dirt floor run with?

We have our coop in a previously fenced in area of our yard but there's no grass. It's just a dirt floor. The coop itself is above the ground so it's just in the run area. It has good drainage but having a dirt floor does get messy sometimes. What's the best thing to cover it with? I see a lot...

Do I need food and water both inside and outside of the coop?

I'm wondering if I need to provide food and water both inside and outside the coop or if its fine to just have it outside where they spend most of their time. I have a limited amount of space in the coop. Thanks!
