I'm slightly new with raising chickens, I've had 3 for a year and a half, and another 3 for six months. One of my chickens, a barred rock named Raven, started to molt. It's not a huge molt, where she looses all her feathers at once, it's a few-here-few-there kind of thing. Anyway, she's been...
When I was little, I've always wanted my own little farm. Whether it be chickens, horses, pigs, goats, etc. I've always loved animals. This past year, I decided I wanted to start my own little farm by getting chickens. I can't say that I recall why exactly I decided to get chickens, I just did...
Lucy: Lucy is my lovely Rhode Island Red. She has always been the shy one and will remain so. She hates to be held and will come to you if she needs anything. When she was a chick she was the "quiet one." Never made a peep unless the others were chasing her for the food she had. Upon growing up...

Someone once told me to keep her in a small cat like carrier in the coop for a day or two, then take the older hens and keep them in a crate for a day to get the new chick use to the coop, then let them great each other in the coop and what-not. I'm not sure if this works though, I've never...
I had my baby chicks in my room with me (I wouldn't put them anywhere else because of my sisters cat.) When I had to move them out into the coop it was so sad! No chirping, no peeping, nothing It was very sad!!! They'll thank you in time for giving them the extra room to move around! Enjoy...
I have an EE that would squeal her heart out! From 10PM to midnight, in the dark, she would squeal... it wasn't even a peep, it was a full blown shrill of a whistle! And it was LOUD! But, I loved every minute of it. I suggest you don't get anymore baby chickens if you can't handle their mess...
I have one, she's VERY noisy! Before she lays an egg she screams bloody murder then gets real quiet when she's done laying it. She doesn't like to be handled or approached, she will approach you. I have never seen her act aggressive towards the other two chickens I have. She's a very good layer...
I have 3 pullets, a R.R, a Plymouth Rock, and my Americana, all turned 6 months on Dec. 5th. The R.R. and the Plymouth Rock have already started laying, but the Americana is acting weird. I'm confused as to whether or not she's depressed or egg bound. I originally had 4 chickens, one turned out...
Maybe it is coming from their poo. I'd watch the chickens behavior closely to see if any are acting out of the ordinary. If you do, separate it from the rest of the flock. I'm thinking the chicken could of been egg bound and the egg collapsed in the chicken and the egg shell ruptured her inside...
