I have the same situation here. If anything, mine are laying MORE lately. I am 3 hours south of Montreal. Days are gettin' short!

    Powder buildup when using crumbles

Anyone else have a problem with powder/residue build-up in their feeders when using crumbles? I would have to go out and clean the little trough part with my fingers every day in order to get the crumbles to fall through into the trough for them to reach. As soon as I switched to pellets, the...

Buff Orpingtons-share stories of your BO's adventure in life!

Our BO, Princess Buttercup, is downright aggressive about getting loved on. When she sees us coming toward the coop, she waits by the door or hatch to spring out into our arms. Kind of funny when you are carrying eggs!

    Will they lay before spring?

Mine started laying after it was already below freezing at night here. They were 25 weeks old when they started. I don't provide extra light and they started on Layer pellets at 23 weeks. I didn't expect anything but they surprised us and now we are getting 2-3 eggs per day from 6 possible...

Do they still squat after they start laying?

Mine never squatted before laying, but now the layers are squatting still. The non-layers aren't squatting yet in my flock.

How much does daylight affect egglaying

It's odd, I guess, but 6 of my 7 hens began laying their first eggs after we dropped BELOW 12 hours of daylight per day. I was resigned to have to wait until spring to see eggs from my 5 month-old flock. Lo and behold, they started laying 3 weeks ago and have been laying every day since (except...

    Question about Light Brahma Chickens

5 Months for my Buff Brahma. My Orpington started laying first, then the rest followed suit within a week, except for my Easter-Egger who hasn't laid one yet. Barred Rock, Wyandottes and RIR are all doing well but eggs are still small.

Anyone's chickens scared of the snow?

Mine did this after the first snow we got back in October. They haven't seemed phased by it with the last couple of snows. But it has been fairly mild so far this year so they haven't seen a lot of it yet. Good luck!
