    How did your username originate?

Mine comes from our cat who we had for many years (another stray like the chickens). Pitch black and hated anything on 4 legs. I used to call it a "bag" when it brought in baby birds and mice, and kept savaging next door's dog! But after standing at the back door shouting "Oye.. Bag" when the...

    Please help - Confused!

kari_Dawn - As much as I love the "rustic" almost ugly look Fatso has I'm not sure what him crossed with our exchequer leghorn would look like, probably best if his attentions are focused on the Goldlines! But if he stays quiet and there is small fluffy things you're quite welcome to some offspring!

    Please help - Confused!

Thank you for the replies so far, but what I don't understand is why Fatso's only crowed twice in over a week. Wouldn't he be doing it every day especially as there is another cockerel whose dulcet tones we can hear! Fatso's about 7 months old.

Hi Kari_Dawn Fatso's feathers weren't wet! They always look like that! The feet are a bit muddy!

Finally, hope this has worked! Fatso photos! Arthur or Martha? And does anybody have any ideas as to breed? You can just see the feathery tufts on the outside of the legs. And the nicely(!) rounded body! No crowing today or assaulting of the others!

    Hello from England

Hello Everyone, I'm a newbie to the world of chickens and joined yesterday. We have Wanda an exquecher leghorn (more like foghorn! very noisey!), 3 Goldline ex battery hens Ginger, Hinge and Bracket, and Fatso who we're not sure if it's an Arthur or a Martha! At the moment they're being buffeted...

    Please help - Confused!

Stephanie - Thank you for the photos, the splash cochin is similar to Fatso. Fatso's legs are not as fluffy, more tufty down the outside, and Fatso's tail is more bushy and upright (looks like it's about to be blown inside out!) He/she is about 7 months so maybe more feathering to come? Our...

    First Egg!!!! Wahooooooo!!!!

Our Exchequer leghorn Wanda laid her first egg Monday, my husband was pacing up and down like an expectant father when she disappeared into the coop! "It's been 10 mins, it's been 15minutes, it's been 1/2 hour now" was all I heard! Finally she came out and there was loads of squawking and...

Thank you so much Rirbrahma, how do I do that? (Technology has never been my strong point!)

    Please help - Confused!

It's similar Kari_Dawn but more rounded. The neck feathers are a dirty brown colour and the legs are not so tufty. It has exchequer markings on it's back and short stubby legs (bit like it's owner!) He/she has been really good today, only crowed twice, left the ladies alone, and was first to...

    Please help - Confused!

I can't believe how everyone is so helpful, thank you so much. Fatso is well, not the most beautiful of birds (another reason I love him/her) I was hoping when it was young it would mature from the ugly duckling to a beautiful chicken...alas no! It's mainly white, with a dirty brown neck, and...

    Please help - Confused!

Thank you for replies. The feathers are upright at the tail, but not really drapping, the neck feathers seem a bit long, it also has tufts on its legs. The name is because it is huge and seems to spend most of it's time eating, it's the first in the food and the last one out! It was either Dyson...

    Please help - Confused!

I am really hoping with all the knowledge out there someone can tell me what sex/breed our rather large chicken is! We found 3 chickens at the side of he road and took them in. They are about 6 months old now and were about 4 weeks when we found them. Last week we introduced 3 ex battery hens...
