That's awesome!
It can be such a difficult decision to intervene or not to intervene. I'm glad it worked out for you! Fingers crossed the little one makes it!
We woke up to a pip this morning! Today is day 20, so one day ahead of schedule. This afternoon we noticed another pip, and then just...
Loving all the chick pictures! I'm so excited for everyone! Fingers crossed for lots more healthy baby chicks (and ducks and gosling). We went into lockdown today. Only a few more days to wait!
I just candled my second batch of eggs and am a bit disappointed. These are shipped eggs that the seller waited a week to ship, so they're 5 days behind my main batch of eggs. They should be 5 days along, and I'm not seeing much growth in any of them. I do have growth in less than half the eggs...

I do not remove the eggs unless they are rotten and start to smell. Then they're in danger of exploding and contaminating the other eggs. Other than that, I would recommend that you leave them until hatch day. Most likely you are correct in what you think you're seeing when you candle...
Can I join in?!
We started with 31 shipped eggs in the incubator for a staggered hatch. The first batch are due out 4/29. We candled with a high powered LED from Lowe's. After candling the first batch I can see growth in 9 out of 19 eggs. 8 of the eggs I ordered are BLR Wyandottes and the...
When I went down to let the chicks out this morning I saw the roo and a pullet engaged in some kind of disagreement. There was a good bit of squabbling and it looked like the roo had her by the scruff of her neck and wouldn't let go.
I'm assuming he was just asserting himself? I've never heard...
We started the morning with 2 pips and now we have TWO babies! There is a third that is zipping as quick as can be, and will be out soon! So exciting! A day early too! These little babies must have been eager to get out!
Sarah, I really don't think you should open the bator. Especially if you have other eggs still in there. I would give it a few hours. I'm sure it will fall off as he dries off. I would get a few pictures, though! That's got to be a funny sight!

OMG! I just heard the same thing! I was coming to type almost the exact same thing! Our's aren't due until Sunday, and I SWEAR I heard a peep, peep! My dh noticed it too and we both sat and stared at the bator and then convinced ourselves it was a crazy bird outside at night or...
Technically mutts (chickens). From what I've been able to research about genetics we should have several Red Sex Links and a few unknowns. We only have 6 eggs in the bator and one looks clear. All this talk is making me want to candle again!
We're due on the 22nd too! It's our first hatch! We candled last night, but just with a flashlight. I couldn't see much, but I think that's probably for the better! Less to be stressed out about!
