My ds showed me 2 roosters tonite around 6:30 that were "shivering". Hunched up, very quiet, shivering like they were in the middle of a blizzard. Tonite one of them is dead. When picked up by his legs a bunch of green mucous drained out his mouth. The other one looks really bad. What is wrong...
this time yes but we ordered the Welsummers & Houdans at the same time. They came together from the hatchery. They was in our chick area which was not near any other chickens at the time they died.
Are Welsummers more sensitive to heat than some breeds? We are in the midst of a heat wave right...
We ordered 15 welsummer chicks this Spring, got 17. 2 died within days of arriving. Then the chickens got sick, I assumed Cocci. At that time I had 15 welsummers & 12 Houdans. I lost 13 of the Welsummers & only 2 Houdans. A week later another Welsummer was dead. Looked healthy & fine at bedtime...
7 chicks so far! one more that has its shell almost totally zipped & another with a tiny hole that my ds says is watching him thru the hole . 3 eggs without any pips yet, still hoping on those .
ok this is just the coolest thing ever!!! We just sat & watched the next chick hatch. We got to see him breaking the shell all around & then popping it off of him & popping out. So neat!!!!!!!!!!
the dc said the first 4 are going to be named Snap, Crackle, Pop & Boom because they are born on...
We have a baby!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 5 more eggs are pipped. I forgot it was hatch day till I walked past the incubator & heard chirping. We have a beautiful, chirpy little black chick!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! First hatcher after 5 batches!
well our Houdans & Welsummers aren't named yet, waiting till they get bigger so we can tell them apart & maby till we know if they are boys or girls.
Our Silkies are..
Marshmallow Fluff (white)
Blacky (black)
Benny (my ds named him after the mascot for a sports team )
Smokey (grey)
Bandit (...
thank you! that is very helpful!!
hmm the poop dosnt look like that picture though.
Another question, could dehydration cause bloody droppings?? their water had gotten spilled at some point overnight & it was in the mid 70's when they first started getting sick. I wouldnt think it would...
definite blood in poop & it does look sort of like ground hamburger. Since 8pm last night, which is the last time they all looked fine, we have lost 1 Houdan & 12 Welsummers Have them on Sulmet. Anything else I can do to give them better chances??
My chicks are dying! Start to look wobbly & not moving around much & by morning are dead. Ive lost 6 already with a couple more acting like this. Tiny bit of blood in poop. Is this Cocci?? What do I do???
almost 5 weeks old. I simply cannot afford a vet bill right now.
I was just watching it & it is running around & drinking & trying to eat. I cant tell if it is actually getting any food or not though.
do the roosters have red around their beaks & ears?? I have 12 straight run Houdans that are almost 5 weeks old. Several of them have very red skin on their faces around their beaks. When I first noticed it I thought it was blood but looking closer it seems to be just skin coloring.
DS went out to water the chicks this morning & came in with one to show me. it looks like it got into a fight with another chick or something. Its chest is pecked practically free of feathers but I can seperate it from the others to protect it from that. What is really concerning me is its beak...
sorry I dont remember who wanted to see these but I figured they might be better in their own thread so any who dont want to see them dont have to. As sad as they are I still think they are cool. This dosnt gross me out at all but I realize it might some people. We have documented all our eggs &...
yes, we cracked one at 15 days that we was sure was dead & it was still alive. I practically cried.
I have pictures of all of our embryos that didn't make it. I can post some of them if you want asher. I think I have about 4 different stages of development at least.
