I have a question for anyone out there. I am getting ready to put my chicken into their new coop and I was wondering do I need to put straw in their laying boxes even though they are only 6 weeks?
Does anyone know how old the chicks have to be to go outside in the coop. We live in SD and the weather is very unpredictable and it could be warm the the nights can still get down to 50. My chicks are inside and the temp with their light is 70 right now and we don't have the furnance on...
Today just for fun and it was about 80 outside we put our 3 week old chicks in their coop to see how they would react and i have to say they loved it. Right away they went and roosted on their branch like they knew just what to do. I was wondering how long before they could go out permanently...
Well, I live in Sioux Falls, SD and I have 2 buff orpintons,1 RIR, 1 barred rock and 1 white rock so they are hardy hens and our weather up here is unpredictable.
My chicks are 2 weeks and 2 days and are very active. How old do they have to be to put them out in the coop? Also, what is the earliest that your hens started to lay eggs?
they are..they are also trying to mimic dustbathing. Thats really funny to see. Its amazing how they are just bred to know and do instinctively the same things the older hens do
Today I had to put up a hanging waterer because the chicks constantly get bedding into the water from all their scratching. Then it took forever for them to figure out it had water in it. They were pretty intimidated by the size of the container. Has anyone else had this problem?
My chicks are a week and 3 days old and it truly is amazing to see how fast they are growing and I made them a little roost with a 2x4 and a 1/2 in piece of stick and they like to get on it and them flap their wings. I also put a mirrow in the corner of their brooder and they just can't get...
I don't remember having this much fun taking care of baby chickens. We had chickens when I was little, but I just remember having to chase after them and feeding them. The chicks are getting use to me now and are even letting me scratch their necks. They are trying to fly. Does anyone know...
Does anyone know when you can give your chicks any treats? Like mealworms. The other night I saw a spider crawling up the heatlamp pole and one of my chicks found it and ate it. The other chicks were chasing her to fight for the spider. It was gross but funny at the same time.
I'm please to announce that my baby chicks have survived their first week and are doing really well. I can't believe how active they all are. Last night I put a mirror in the corner of their brooder and they all just love looking at themselves and they all love their little roost I made them...
I have a question for anyone out there that has raised baby chicks from the start. How long before switching from the newspaper to actual pine bedding and I thought I bought shavings but when I opened it, it looked like pine crumbles (very fine) and I'm worried its too fine and they might eat...
