Wow, thanks everyone for the information on moving. Cheryl we can go up to about 1100.00 per month, but I would prefer to keep it under 1000, we need a three bedroom and I don't ever want to live in a bad neighborhood. I am hoping my sister can help us come up with something, as I would prefer...

Let's just say the vog is like smelling sulfar and it just about kills me with allergies when things blow our way. I will also say the grass is greener on the other side for only so long. We are also talking humidity at times where all you are is soaked all day and go to bed to very damp sheets...

My sister is in Silverdale. I have been looking online for that area as well as Port Orchard. Most of the property managers don't want to deal with someone with a recent bankruptcy, and some of them I have read some really horrible things about anyway. I have found two apartment complexes that...

I don't have a clue what is considered East or NE. I have a county map and it looks like Kitsap county is on the left, would that be Western Washington area?

Thanks for the information. We moved to Hawaii from Alaska about 9 years ago, so I am used to the cold, I actually have more issues with the heat and humidity here. Just depends on how cold it is and for how long, plus the snow issue. Shoveling snow was the biggest reason for leaving Alaska.

Hello to everyone. I have a question about moving to Washington. My husband and I have been going through some major financial problems with a failed business and mounting bills, which led to us filing a chapter 7 liquidation bankruptcy in November. We will finally be discharged near the end of...

Help with egg size and recipes

I have one bantam amongst my 29 hens, and I love her eggs the best. She has the most consistent firm, dark yolks, but she tries to go broody after laying about eighteen eggs. I always use her eggs if I have them, usually two to one. But it depends on what I am cooking. Like a cake that calls...

How Long to Bust a Broody

We do this with all of our broody hens unless we want chicks. It takes normally 3 to 5 days, except for our one game hen who does like the other person said, she cycles about every 6 to 8 weeks going broody, I think that is the nature of her breed. We have done this for about three years and it...

uh oh creepy crawlies on broody's eggs!

This happens to us with almost every hen that goes broody and sets on eggs, generally after about two weeks. We wait until the broody is off her nest, then take the eggs out, quickly clean and replace the bedding with some DE mixed into it, or if it is really bad we will use sevin dust in a...

What a Horrible coop owner... So GROSSED out...

I used every thing that has ever been suggested including the bucket method. The mice were smarter than me. I persisted for over two months while they continued to dig mine fields under my house and they just got fatter and sneakier. I finally caved in and went to the humane society and got two...

    stubborn chickens

We have a two acre lot of which one acre is fenced. Our chickens free range from dawn to dusk, and we let them out from the coops that are in the back yard. The only way off of our property is for them to go all the way around the house, down the driveway and through the gate opening. Then they...

    Sexlink or Australorp?

I had both, raised them from babies. I just sold off ten of the sex links this weekend as we are trying to cut back on our flock to a more manageable number, we were at 53 birds total. The sex links by far made the most noise. My Austrolorps lay a much bigger egg than the sex links did...

Six scratches, four bites and three band-aids later.....

It only works for awhile. Just when you think you have it figured out, they will spit the stupid pill out and you will find it somewhere. We had a cat that for the last three years was on medication (she was quite crazy). It took my husband and son (this was sons cat) every single night, one...

    I Hate Meeces to Pieces!

We were having horrible problems with rats and mice. The mice were so bold they would just go into the chicken coops and eat out of the bowls while we were watching. We set the spring loaded rat traps and one cage style live trap. Caught a mongoose in the live trap, which was good as it had...

    Egg Prices and Colors

Actually our customers all love the blue eggs, and when they don't get any wonder what has happened. We generally try to put two in each dozen with ten brown eggs, as we don't have near enough of the blue egg layers. I am going to fix that next year. We get 4 dollars a dozen from ours and the...

Can someone teach me to fry a chicken? Please?

I always use skinless chicken, but add a bit (1/4 cup) of cornmeal and/or bread crumbs to the flour, salt, garlic, powder, poultry seasoning, parika. Does help make it crispy.

Anyone get Easter Egger's from Meyers Hatchery?

I have six EE's, five layed between 22-24 weeks, the other one, which I was convinced was some kind of weird rooster, because she did not lay forever, layed at 40 weeks.

How much noise do they make?

They do poop tons. The stink was bad enough that I have not grown any more, and I have fifty other chickens, so that is saying something. I found them to be extremely easy to take care of, with very little noise.

    Do chickens and cats mix?

We started having a horrible time with mice and rats here due to the chicken feed. We managed for almost two years with using just traps on the rats, but several months ago the mice were so bad, and daring, every time we went out to feed the chickens the not so stupid mice would be in the pens...

Back Of My Hen's Head Is Missing!! Will She Survive? What Can I Do?

We had one like this also. My roo took a dislike to her, then the other girls followed his example and by the time they were done they had all the meat gone behind her comb down to her skull. I think it really traumatized her as well, as she was dazed and shook up. But we put her in a cage by...
