Can anyone tell me what colour these two are?
They were a result of two partridge parents. I don't know what happened but they are very pretty in 3D
This is my favourite partridge Coco
I prefer weird names for my chickens that suite their personality and features. These are just a couple of mine: Peep (large orpington rooster), Chewy (Ancona hen), Chirp, Sparkles, Parsley, Blossom, Coco, Peaches and Wobble (all silkies), Scrabble, Boggle, Sunny, Viper, Footless, Edwina, Big...
These are my pekin chicks. They are four weeks old and I would like to know the gender of them. I want lots of opinions.
chick #1 (tick)
chick # 2 (tock)
Thanks for your help. I can manage a lot of chickens because I have quite a big yard. I think after this last batch have hatched I will put the incubator away until I have more room.
I am a victim of chicken math and would like to know how many chickens I will be able to house comfortably. I have two chicken pens that are 6.2metres x 5.2metres. One of the pens currently houses 13 medium sized chickens who are allowed to free range during the day. The other pen contains 11...
The chick can't escape through the wire and nothing could get in because it is bird aviary wire so the squares are really small. I starting to think its the mother.
My broody silkie hen just recently hatched four chicks. I left them in the same pen as the others because it is an all silkie pen and I thought they would be nice to the little ones. I only ever saw three of the chicks together because one of them just vanished on the first day. We think it...
One of my silkies has become broody and is sitting on 9 eggs, but it's the middle of winter.
Do chicks hatch in winter and what is the usual hatch rate?
I only live in Australia so it doesn't get terribly cold here and there is no snow, but it does get below 10 degrees sometimes with heaps of...
Thanks for the advice. I have already tried to introduce her to the other chickens but she just cries and hides in between my feet. I'm thinking of getting another silkie the same age and then put them in together so she has a friend. As for the poo it doesn't do it on people for some reason...
It all started when I just had to incubate some eggs. I brought a dozen eggs on the internet and incubated them. I also added three of my own white silkie eggs. The silkie eggs were three times smaller then the shipped eggs so I was scared they would produce really small chicks.
Three weeks...
Nine out of the nine chicks that reached lockdown have hatched. I kinda miss the excitement of hatching though. I'm really happy because all are in excellent condition apart from one silkie having splayed leg which I have already bandaided up. I had to separate the big chicks from the three...
I came home today to find more chickies had hatched. 7 all up. I have only two silkie eggs left and they both have pipped. It's a shame I didn't get to see most of them hatch ( only one so far). I hope everyone's hatch goes as well as mine. Will the chicks knocking the eggs do anything to...
I woke up at 4:30 this morning to find a tiny blue Orpington chick staring at me from the bator. Another has just started to zip. I think all of my eggs have pipped. This is so exciting!!!!
Yay!!!!!!! I came home today to find that two of my eggs have pipped and they are chirping away like crazy. The others are all still shacking and rolling around. I think they really want to come out. I spend way too much time near the bator in lockdown. I think I am a bit impatient.
