    Advice: Get a Rooster!

I have 4 Rhode Island Red hens (actually just found one dead so now 3) and about 40 bantams! I started with 6 bantams and only 2 were roos. One Rooster adopted the big hens so we named him Huge. The other stayed with the 4 bantam hens. The bantams free range because they fly so I can't keep them...

Is a Rooster a danger to chicks?

Should I allow them out of the pen and let them all free range together? Sorry if this is a duplicate reply. I'm not sure how this site works best.

Is a Rooster a danger to chicks?

I have the hen and her 9 chicks in an 4x8 completely fenced area in the barn. I'm afraid to let her out with the chicks thinking they could come to some harm by anything. Should I continue to keep her penned with them or let her out with them allow them to free range with the other two hens and...

Is a Rooster a danger to chicks?

I have 4 Bantam Hens and 2 Bantam Roosters. The roosters went their separate ways, one kept the 4 hens and the other adopted my large Rhode Island Red hens (we now call him Huge Hefner). One Bantam Hen has hatching eggs (9 so far out of 13). She's in a separate large cage just moved to a larger...

    Eggbound Chicken still alive

I was going to put her down but she seemed pretty unaffected by the whole ordeal. Just pecked happily along. I'm sure the end wasn't pleasant for her and I feel bad. Thanks for your condolences.

    Eggbound Chicken still alive

My eggbound hen finally passed away the other day. I had been busy for two days and had seen her happily pecking the ground one morning but the next morning she was dead in the goat house. She must have died early the previous day because she already smelled so I didn't do the "autopsy" I...

    Eggbound Chicken still alive

And you know...she's still alive like that! Still doesn't show signs of being uncomfortable except walks like she's got a load on. She even a little smaller, but only ever so slightly.

    Eggbound Chicken still alive

That's ok...you're right. I'm just looking for any sign she's uncomfortable and right now she's not or she has a very high threshold for pain.

    Eggbound Chicken still alive

I'm inclined to agree since I've seen an egg or two (distorted as can be) and membranes. I'll see when she's too tired to go on. So far she's still happy as can be waddling around. I don't see pain in her eyes yet. Once I see it I'll help her out so she doesn't suffer. I was hoping a quick heart...

    Eggbound Chicken still alive

I'll stop at WalGreens tomorrow and see if they have them. I'm wondering if Delaware has some sort of rule about selling needles and such without an Rx. I know under 21 you can't even buy over the counter cough syrups of certain kinds so I've heard. Thanks.

    Eggbound Chicken still alive

I also have 2 pygmy goats that share space with the chickens. After having them 2 years I found out the goats require shots which can be purchased at the feed store. The lady I bought the goats from told me what to do and how to do it. Two weeks ago I followed her instruction and went to the...

    Eggbound Chicken still alive

I will surely keep you all posted. I'm thinking that she's probably full of solidified yolk so she's beyond my efforts to relieve her. Besides not finding a vet that would help with a hen, my finances won't allow that expense. Since I think she's occassionally passing a membrane here and there...

    Eggbound Chicken still alive

I searched for eggs and found nothing, searched a day or two later and found blockage but didn't feel like an egg. I did a warm sit bath and isolation to find broken egg membranes and poop. Gave her Castor Oil which produced another egg membrane. Took her out of observation because she had...

    Eggbound Chicken still alive

I'm back from being away at school for a week. My sweet hen is still alive!!! I can't believe it. She doesn't seem to be having any trouble breathing at all. She's just all big and swollen still. I don't have a clue what to do.

    Eggbound Chicken still alive

Thank you for posting those for me:) Pretty sick looking isn't it! I don't know how big she can get before splitting open or if that sore of thing would happen. I don't know if I should put her down.

    Eggbound Chicken still alive

She's been eggbound over two weeks now. And I did notice that next time I went to photobucket I was actually registered. I didn't have any more time to mess with it. Maybe I revisit today and see about posting them. Meantime, this morning my hen came out from hiding to stand next to me while...

    Eggbound Chicken still alive

I'll send to your email the pics I just took if you don't mind. I just tried to sign up for photobucket but I won't give personal info like my cell phone # so I can't sign up. Let me know if I can send the pics of my hen to you, just 3 small files.

    Eggbound Chicken still alive

Did that in the beginning too but 1st time found nothing as far as I could reach, second time seemed like a blockage but no way to get around it. Castor oiled her since and she's passed a couple egg membranes only, no hard shell pieces. Had her separated for a while but she got highly distressed...
