I love my Australorp. She is the first to run over to you and wants to be petted and held. She won't go to bed sometimes until you've held her for a few minutes. Great addition to my mixed flock! She is also my second largest egg layer (after my Red Star)

I just got 2- 9 week old Silkies. I was told they are both female, but I'm questioning one of them. Any guesses on gender?

Not sure how to add new pullets

I was only thinking about brooding if the idea of adding the 3 1/2 month olds wouldn't work with my set up. I hear some people say quarentine for every age, and others have told me they just add them at night when the others are sleeping and they haven't had any problems. Is it possible that...

Not sure how to add new pullets

My group is 26 weeks old (no Roo's). They are all different kinds (sex-link, australorp, cochin, Mottled Java, Black Copper Maran). They just started laying end of July, early August. (I don't really have a HUGE yard. (I will be giving the 2 Cochin away to a friend once these 2 are older). All...

They are growing (10 weeks old), and I'm thinking one might be a roo! (pic heavy) Australorps, Mottl

It is SO cool! I'm coming up with foods to cook just so I can use all the eggs! The kids are loving them too. I have 2 nests for 6 chickens and I usually get 3 eggs in each container (I use plastic storage containers-lol) I got home from work and there were 6 eggs waiting!! When I read about the...

So, it is confirmed to be a girl And I am sure that while she may be ugly on the outside, her eggs are by FAR the darkest I've ever seen! Here is a pic from todays, guess which one is hers! lol

They are growing (10 weeks old), and I'm thinking one might be a roo! (pic heavy) Australorps, Mottl

Thank you I cried for a full day when she died (first one I've ever lost). I noticed that the bully tends to pick on my one cochin who is kinda a dingbat, lol. I have two places for food and water so she's always able to eat, but she is just so mellow that she runs, lol. I noticed today that my...

thank you for the pictures!! I still haven't heard any crowing from anyone and we are at 15 weeks now. Sadly Godzilla my bigger Lorp had an unfortunate door malfuntion that killed her . My Black Copper Maran is a bully and chases everyone around and makes weird noises, but no crowing. I'm still...

    Rain

Mine love being out! I live in Oregon, so they would be locked up 8 months of the year, lol. I have one side of the run covered in a tarp to keep it dry and they can get underneath the coop as well. I also have a large plastic dog house with straw in it. I've seen them hang out in there too...

    Feeding and Wild Birds

They just fly in and then there is wild bird poop inside! Thanks everyone for your suggestions The deer block is only about $20 for a 100' roll (7' tall) at Home Depot. I can just pick up some zip ties I think and attach it. Has anyone used "flashing" tape around the run to keep out...

    Feeding and Wild Birds

I have 3-month old chicks and they are out in their covered run all day. It's a dog kennel. I covered the top with black netting and a portion is covered with a tarp for shade. The last few days a flock of wild birds, including some starlings have shown up and are getting in and eating the food...

    Black Copper Maran?? OR???

Thanks for asking. We are at the 11 week stage and I still don't even know if it's a pullet or not. I posted a thread in the what is this section with a few of my birds and only got one response. If you look in my profile I have the pictures in the avatar album (they went to the wrong place)...

All these guys are in the 10-11 week range (except for the Java) and growing so fast! They are super fun (my first flock of chickens!) Any thoughts, comments, ideas on if they are mixes or not welcome! and guesses on the sex! This is "Roo" 10 week old black Australorp. I have 2 Lorps and the...
