I would suggest that you use chicken wire so you know that it will be durable. I use the close thread chicken wire and it holds up really good.

3-4 sq ft per chicken. Thats about how much that you will need for your chickens to be comfortable

MY chicks didn't roost until they were about 3 to 4 months old so you don't need to worry. When there ready they will just roost away..

so they will the automatically lay in the boxes?

yes the chicks should be almost fully grown. I had the same thing to happen when i put a 3wk old bantam in with the 7wk old black sex links...
