What to look for in chicks in deplorable conditions

Rescued 5 chicks today in deplorable living conditions. No food, water, sunlight. Put them in separate pen from my own hens. Hosed them off, gave food and water. They were starved. What do I look for as in possible problems? They were born in March. Two are Rhode Island reds, believe 2 are black...

Bloody sores on top of feet

Can anyone explain what this may be? It was only one foot last week which I cleaned with betadine solution and put antibiotic cream, but last night noticed both feet are like this. With the blood, of course, the others are pecking. Never experienced this before. Any help would be appreciated.

    Chicks arrived today from Meyer.

Ordered 15 chicks from Meyer Hatchery. I live in Pennsylvania and did a map quest and Meyer's location is approximately 6 1/2 hours from my town. That's why I picked Meyer over Ideal this year. Chicks were hatched and shipped Monday. They finally got to my post office at 4:30 am this...

    Setting Hens

How long do you let hens sit on a clutch of eggs? We have had two hatch so far. There are probably at least 2 dozen or better still under the hens. We took the pouts and put them in a brooder in the house. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

    Hatching eggs naturally

We have two hens laying on eggs. I went in to check them and of course they are pretty protective. I saw what looked like a smashed egg near the front of the laying box. I took a stick and was able to get it out. It was smashed with a dead poult in it, so we are close to hatching. We put a...

    Hatching Eggs

I see ads pertaining to "hatching eggs" for sale. We have 3 hens and 2 gobblers and the hens are laying like crazy. Our incubator is full and we still have more coming. Do people actually ship the fertile eggs or is it best to just sell them as day old poults once they hatch?

    18 month old chickens dying

I have lost 2 hens in one week. They have been losing feathers, but I attributed it to molting or just hens picking on each other. Actually, I lost another hen about 2 weeks ago also. Please look at the pictures and tell me what is going on. Thanks

    Lone Narragansett Poult

Out of 8 eggs, we have only one live hatch. One died trying to get out of the egg. There is another that is pipping but not all the way through yet, so we have just the one live one. It is in the brooder all by itself. For precautionary measures, we have a local feed store that have turkey...

    Lone Chick

Out of 8 eggs, one died trying to hatch, one is alive and well and another is pipping, so hopefully this will be a live hatch. If not, should we get another chick or poult from a local feed store to keep it company. Will the lone poult do better with some buddies if the other egg does not have...

    Candle or not to candle?

8 Narragansett eggs in incubator. One started to hatch yesterday, but died in the process. One hatched today, no problems at all. They were put in incubator on 4/1/13. Should I candle remaining 6 to see what is going on if anything? Thanks

    Turkey eggs hatching

So excited. 2 of the 8 turkey eggs are showing some movement. One has started to peck through shell and another one is moving. I was worried at first, but am anxious now to see the little guys or girls.
