Chick just hatched, seems to be under developed? I'm new at this, please help! Have had 5 deaths so

No I didn't take it as rude :) And no I do not lose heaps, sorry if it sounded that way. If a broody hatches 9 or 10 i usually find 1 dead the next day(not always) I have also checked the eggs on the 21st day to find a seemingly healthy chick pip a good size hole and chirp like crazy, to find...

Chick just hatched, seems to be under developed? I'm new at this, please help! Have had 5 deaths so

Well my feed is layer pellets from the feed store so nothing out of the ordinary there. And I always leave my broodys alone, I never interfere so any lost chick is just nature taking it's course. All chicken people/things I have read say it is normal/ to be expected to loose some and to be...

    Dog Attack

I have had LOTS of experience with my puppy getting ahold of my birds. When you find them laying after an attack it's definatly from shock/stress. I have seen my dog chase one and before he has even got to it they lower to the ground and they do not get up until i have chased him away. As long...

Chick just hatched, seems to be under developed? I'm new at this, please help! Have had 5 deaths so

Was the one with blood on it still wet? Can you tell if it has absorbed the yolk? If it is just hatched they do lay still for a few hrs to get their strength. It also could be the mother killing them. I had a broody hatch 6 last december and she had a few hatch out and do fine, but 2 or 3 of...

    Limping rooster

The pics arent the best but it was what I could get with him squirming. The 1st one is the bottom of the injured foot. No sign of bumblefoot. He has no reaction when I push on it either. You can really see the size difference of his feet in the 4th pic

    Limping rooster

I have cleaned his foot well, and I do not see the black spot of infection I just slathered his leg with the jelly and will continue to see if it helps. Also the heat to it is gone. His scales are definatly raised so thats why I am leaning toward scaly leg. Can that cause infection and fatality?

EMERGENCY! CHICK PULLED YOLK HALF-OUT WHILE HATCHING!!

It probably wont absorb. Since it is out of the shell the hole will most likely start to close up and heal. I had a chick survive without absorbing all of hers. She was just really weak for hours. Just keep it warm and make food and water available and hope for the best :) Hopefully enough was...

EMERGENCY! CHICK PULLED YOLK HALF-OUT WHILE HATCHING!!

The yolk is what gives them the their energy and keeps them fed for the first few days so he may be a little weak without most of it but should be fine with food and water. If he is movibg that is a good sign. Just keep him warm. I am not sure about it absorbing once he has left the shell...

    Limping rooster

Okay I am almost positive my roo has scaly leg, but it is weird that it hasnt spread to the other leg. The right foots scales are raised and the entire foot/leg is swollen. Also the toes seem to be crooked so I think it has affected his joints. I have been doing a liquid of scaly leg protecter...

    Limping rooster

I am going to post a pic. I do not think he has bumblefoot. On his right leg he is limping, not both. The small toe on the right foot is like 3x bigger than the toe on his left and the nail looks to be either broken off or sunk in because there is barely on there. Can they get ingrown toe nails...

    Limping rooster

I think it may be bumblefoot. There is a spot the bottom of one of his toes but it is not dark like bumblefoot. And yes he does have raised scales, his leg is also very warm to the touch. Are those symptoms of bumblefoot?

    Limping rooster

Hi, I have a 4 year old barred rock rooster who has not been acting like himself lately. He is walking with a limp and I have just noticed his right foot looking swollen. I grabbed him to check him out further and his legs(where the feathers start) are very red and hot. He does not roost in the...

Eggs set in November, due December, anyone?

She must have because she is such a good mama to the 3 she has. When the 3rd was hatching she was helping it to get the shell off and being so sweet

Eggs set in November, due December, anyone?

Okay so I have got to update! I had a broody sitting on 14 eggs and last week 1 hatched and she killed it :( 5 exploded and that left 8. So I float tested them and the sinkers were duds and the floaters I put back under her. Well I thought for sure there was no hope because they were on day 28...
