My English game hen has one toe that looks swollen and has no claw. There is no hole, looks healed over? She holds it out straight when she's roosting. What should I do? Thanks!
We feed them Blue Seal Layer feed mixed with cracked corn, as well as some lettuce and bread scraps. They only free range now on weekends when we are home to close up the fence to the the coop before dark. I've checked all their nesting spots under the pines, nothing there either.
My gals were hatched in spring 2008, they free ranged all summer but by late october we were keeping them penned because of early sunsets and getting off work after dark...they were exclusively penned for the first year of life and layed profusely. They have not layed a single egg since october...
Had the same problem, just filled in under the coop with gravel and put big stones around the perimeter, they decided it was easier to just go in the boxes.
i know this is kind of a specific request, but I promised my 3 yr old we could get another hen when we rehomed his beloved rooster. with 3 kids under 3 we don't have time for the whole chick thing...if you can part with one or two hens we'd appreciate it!

Absolutely beautiful, tame roo. Handled since chick. Neighbors recently built addition(bedroom) close to coop. Not happy waking up to our roo. Love the neighbors and respect their desire for P&Q. My 3 yr old named him Taco. Can email pictures if interested. Litchfield, CT
Thanks,
Amanda
Need a new home for a 4 year old Plymouth Barred Rock hen, still laying. She has just been targeted by our roo for some reason and now he's brutalizing her. She's in hiding all day under the coop, and her head feathers have been plucked out. Need a new home asap!!! Email or call...
Have a young roo enjoying the heck out of all his ladies, problem is with one old hen who refuses to succumb to his throes of love. She is terrified and has resorted to digging a hole and hiding under the coop all day. Her old lady sister does just fine. What do I do???
(s)He's Much taller, different body style, tail plumage is all waterfall like, and i think he's mating? with a hen. they dug a hole together today and were rolling around in a very smitten way...
I never had a rooster before, and have some questions. First, he hatched mid April as a "hen", but no crowing yet. Could he be mute?? I hope so because I think my neighbor will kill me... Second... Someone told me I have to separate him from the ladies if I intend to eat the eggs. Is this...
I agree with the chain link kennel idea for the chickens. I have a pointer mix who would just love to sink her teeth into the hens, but they are in a dog kennel with rocks along the edges to make digging under difficult.
I have a young 3 month old hen? that is very tall in comparison with her? sisters. She is also blue and red. I hope i named the colors right, a reddish color neck with that oily green black tail plumage. What are the chances she is a he? Can a female sport such colors? Are there any...
