We use DE here. I dust the birds, coop and run. I haven't had any issues with bugs while using it, but mind you, I have only had chickens since April. We don't use 7 b/c we have bees. If a bee comes into the hive with 7 on it it can kill the whole hive. I hope no one close to use uses 7.
I would love to be more self-sufficient. My dream is to be able to live completely off the grid. As of right now, we have chickens and soon will be able to use them for eggs and meat. We have bees and a veggie garden. My husband makes beer, wine, and other other beverages and I can sew. We...
We have bees and chickens with no issues. We have 3 hives and the chickens don't even notice the bees, but they are in different corners of the backyard. I have heard that guineas will sit in front of the hive eating bees as they come in and out of the hive. My husband it taking his hands-on...
I'm trying to find information about the Gaston, SC chickenstock, but I couldn't find a thread about it. I saw in this one that it is this Saturday. Does anyone know times and an address?
I would take them in a heartbeat! Sadly, I'm new to chickens and none of my girls are laying yet, and I don't have any bantams :( Hopfully this will change soon!! :P
Hi! I know this is an older thread, but I was searching for WNC folks and came across your post. I'm not too far from you (Rutherford County), but I noticed that you have 2 greys! I have a grey, too! We also foster some for our adoption group. We also have a border collie and just lost our...
I've been adding mine to the compost pile as well, but I think I am cleaning it out too often as well. It seems to me a lot of folks on here use a kitty scoop to clean out the poop from the coop. I think I am going to start trying that.
I have 6, 6 week old barred rocks. They have been having access to free range each day for about two weeks now. I had heard that since they get to free range in the backyard that they wouldn't need grit, but I'm worried that they won't get enough from our yard. Today, we got some chick grit...
I just found this thread. I am so glad this will be pretty close to home. I am planning on coming and bringing my husband along. I have been thinking about getting some silkies. Who knows, maybe I'll get to come home with some ;)
Hi all from Western North Carolina! My husband and I brought home 6 barred rock girls about two weeks ago. They are about 5 weeks old and doing great so far. They seem to have all of their feathers now. We have been wanting chickens for awhile and finally decided to take the plunge. We...
