    mini-van coop & tractor

I'm working on a similar project. My plans are to use harware cloth across the van right behind where the front seats were, with a little gate built in for me to let them in and out. That way, I can open the front door on the drivers side to check on everybody or get to my supllies without all...

How many chickens do we all have? 60,083 and counting.

67,803 + 10 = 67,813. All Silkies (so far!). Four have names: Athos, Porthos, Aramis and D'Artagnan. The six new babies are still waiting to be named.

years of unfollowed post need removed

All of the old posts with useful information is why I love this forum. It is also why I don't post very often... Usually I can find answers to my questions just by searching for them.

*Ok Am I the ONLY one that does these things?*

Haha... I can't eat chicken or eggs around mine... It makes me feel so bad! My hubby has no qualms, though. He doesn't say he's eating their mommy, it's usually "Heeeey! Your cousing tastes great. Bet you would, too!", and me saying, "Knock it off, you're going to creep them out!" Haha!

Finish this sentence: "You know you're addicted to chickens when..."

You know you're addicted to chickens when...... Your husband gets into the diaper bag to find something, and pulls out a Ziploc baggie of feed and a waterer base. True story.

    Brooding goslings and chicks together?

I have to Emden goslings arriving in around two weeks, and I'd also like to get a couple more Silkie peeps. The goslings are going to be in with the chickens to (hopefully) alert me if the neighbor's dog comes around them. Can I brood them together, or do I need to keep them separated as...

Question About Keeping Diff Breeds Together

I was curious about this, too. The wondeful lady I got my Silkies from said that it's okay to mix the breeds, but any of the standard chickens that I put in with the Silkies must be introduced young. She said otherwise they would bully the silkies. Anyone else have any experience with this?

Chicks have good taste in music

Haha! Mine seem to enjoy the radio too. They don't like beeping noises, though, which seems a little weird.... Funny little birds.

    "Boiled" Eggs 5 different ways

Well, that's neat. I'll have to try the oven thing once... I'm not entirely convinced about the dishwasher idea, though!

Best kind of eggs for first time incubation?

Since we've had such luck (and fun!) raising up our Silkie peeps, my kids and I would like to try hatching our own eggs. This will be our first endeavor. Does anyone have any advice for us? We do not have an incubator, so since this is our first time, should I go ahead and buy one, or will we...

Neighbor threatening to "take out my roosters"

I'm sorry that you have to deal with this. Some people are so rude... And you do have to wonder why city people move to the country and then expect us country folk to change our ways on their behalf. You never know, offering him some eggs might help him see your chickens in a different light...

    Hello from PA!

Hi everyone. My name is Georgia, and I'm a new chicken mommy from Pennsylvania. Nearly two weeks ago, I picked up four day-old Silkie babies. They're doing well in their little home-made brooder, and I am so pleased (and relieved)! I stumbled across this awesome site while searching for more...
