I was worried about the chooks getting through Nemo... but everyone is fine, including my little Serama. They are outside playing in the snow right now!
we cleared a path for them, made sure water is not frozen, and doors are clear, but that's it. I am always amazed at how resilient they are...
i can't tell the rest:
slate legs, ok
beard, muff, tufts, pea comb ok
ruffled by the wind
but she is laying a greenish type egg with speckles, see top right:
so she must be an easter egger then? She's a really pretty bird anyways.
I am so excited... my BCM just started laying, so i have every color i wanted ... (missing my nicely speckled welsummer and pretty dark cuckoo marans eggs in this shot though!).
as a side note, that top right greenish speckled egg is from a "true pure bred blue ameraucana" from my pet chicken...
I am located in Long Island, NY.
these roosters were hatched between april and july 2012, all beautiful, vaccinated for Marek's, infectious bronchitis, fowl pox and were wormed last 3 months ago. They have been hand raised with love, and are allowed to free range with the girls. All are pure...
OK, so the serama chick was a "present" from the local chicken guy, and of course it turned out to be a rooster... though a very cute and silly one. I have been worried about him in the cold weather (we have been having dips to single digits here), and been ready to bring him inside in the...
OK, so this blue Ameraucana hen was ok yesterday, today i watched with horror as she was scratching around, and when she turned, she had bloody red membranes hanging out of her behind, an egg in them. Inches of them!
She was hard to catch, i gave her a warm bath and noticed that the membrane...
My first time with silkies, and i still can't tell what i have at 25 weeks.
About 1.5 weeks back, the comb suddenly started bigger, little wattles are growing in, and there is a tinge of pink/red....i thought it was a she, now i am not so sure anymore!

I started this 7-8 week old chick on corid, but the poops had both cocci and roundworms in it. She's been having trouble standing and walking, and the cocci + worm may be the cause.
I could make a single dose with wazine, and use the feeding syringe to make sure it all goes in (it's just about...
ok, so since i was testing poops for the sick chick, as well as the other chicks, i threw in a bunch of adult samples too, since they free range. Some of the adults came back positive for roundworms.
I have the chicken health handbook, and Damerow says that i should only worm if the chicken's...
When we got our first chicks in april, this little guy was thrown in by the breeder as a present... of course it turned out to be male! No idea what it is. Maybe a mutt, not sure.
here it was a few days old (don't mind Bosco in the background)
At 2 weeks, bottom right, i knew it was a boy...
I have a blue andalusian 7 week old chick that started exhibiting these symptons today. Sitting down a lot. Having trouble walking and falling backwards somewhat in trying to sit. Sometimes stretching the legs in front of her. Having trouble getting back up. No swelling on the legs or any other...
The chick has a swelling above and to the side of the hock and is limping. I don't think it's a slipped tendon, I gently pulled the leg back and massaged the hock and it felt no pain. The overall hock on that side seems a bit bigger, and the swelling is above and the size of a pea. Idrained some...
I am worried about these two because of the tails. This is my first chicken experience so i am not sure if a tail like this means pullets or cockerels!
i just could.t upload directly, so i made an online album for the photos.

I vaccinated my batch of 3-4 week old chicks last friday for new castle/bronchitis. They were all ok until monday night. I was gone for three days (someone was looking over them) and when i came back tonight a bunch of them were sneezing a bit, and had one runny eye (only one eye runny... not...
So after extensive thinking, i have decided to vaccinate all the chicks.
I ordered the chicken pox and different strains of new castle and bronchitis; i am looking for the laryngotracheitis and encephalomyelitis, but what i wanted to ask is,
can i vaccinate a chick that is 2-3 weeks old for...
Hi,
so my chicken coop is in a fully secured run. 7 foot fence, wire overhead, and wire buried10 inches under the ground connecting to the fence (and the wire is pretty thick, about half inch little squares). Have of the coop is covered to protect from the elements.
The coop doesn't have an...
I have had the chicks for a week now, and last night one of the lavender orpingtons was just standing there, with eyes closed and not moving. Wouldn't eat or drink. The eyes, beak etc are all clear of any discharge and are not swollen. The butt was clean, but later on i notice a whitish and very...
OK, so i started the chicken craze by thinking i would keep only 3-4 hens for eggs, and then it all went out of control as i read up and discovered all the different breeds. I have now decided to keep the roosters from the straight runs if they grow to get along with each other, after reading...
