I don't think my ducks and turkeys really care about each other. Every once and awhile I'll see a duck or goose chance someone, but the turkeys have only had any sort of aggression toward each other while deciding who's the biggest tom. A duck isn't really going to hurt a turkey with its bill...
When can poults leave the heat lamp behind? I've been having a little trouble with them flying out of the brooder even with 3' walls so I want to put them in a barn but there isn't electricity for a heat lamp. The lows this week are only 65° at night and they are 4 weeks old today, is that too...
Hate to bump such an old thread, but it came up on a quick search:
My first two hatches always came a full day early to what I was expecting, but this month it was 3 days early! I set on 2/13 and they pipped and hatched 3/9, so only 25 days, too!
I guess it is a variable in gestation similar...
I use a wire shelving unit like this but just forming a big wall. i gave up on the connectors and used zipties to hold them together. I think I used 3x3 or 3x4 which was big enough for 7 ducks or 3 geese until they were feathered. Nice thing is that it is easily expandable as they grow...
Pretty much all of the 15 ducklings I've hatched have gotten stuck, I think 1 made it out somehow, and the single chicken hatched himself. To raise the humidity you can fold paper towels under the mesh floor to act like a sponge. That and spray warm water on everything.
Adding up the current Lowes cost of the visible materials only gets to $350. Add paint, trip, hardward cloth, and screws; probably around $500-600. If you shop Lowes, make sure to get a 10% from the post office, and even check out buying a discounted gift card to save another ~10%. Another...
I recently finished working on my Arduino controlled thermostat. Only requires a 5VDC arduino (USB is a big, big plus) like a "Pro Micro", a temperature sensor, and a solid state relay, so only around $35 for digital control. Of course I added a 4" computer fan which is where I zip tied the...
My yearling African goose started laying quite prolifically in December, and now that it's warm enough for them to use the pool and for me to keep the eggs from freezing she's almost stopped! I've only gotten 3 eggs in 10 days. Still waiting for a 4th to set with a couple duck eggs.
