If you have Red Cell, Poultry Cell or Rooster Booster, you may consider giving her some via a syringe with no needle. Folks have found it helpful when their Silkies are battling wry neck, are weakened or are deficient in nutrients.
Hi! Can we PM? Your hen is not looking good. She may be dehydrated and would benefit from sub cutaneous fluids and tube feeding. Her electrolytes may be out of whack which could affect her balance ANS muscle control. I may have some suggestions for you. Regards, Tina
Hi everyone, missed you all. Been busy as "head hen" on a Silkie FB group. I'm now also the N.Y.State rep for the ASBC Silkie club. Had some fun selecting and donating junior awards for the upcoming State and District meets. Let me see if I can attach a photo of the awards. I think the winners...
Hi everyone,
I'm sorry for my long absence. I miss this group and the friends here. We still have our silkies, a few nankins and one cute bantam polish. Due to predators, we only have two egg layers left. Trying our best to survive this brutally cold weather with all this darn snow. For those...
I would try raising the temp to 102 degrees. That might be helpful for the type of incubator you have. Please give Sam a hug from Lindsey and me. Tina
congrats!
so glad to hear your enthusiasm!
Sending everyone warm wishes for a Healthy and Happy New Year!!! May our nest boxes be filled with fertile eggs and our brooders filled with chicks!
Tina
Congratulations! For future hatches, silkies often do better incubating at 99.5 to 100 degrees in Brinsea type incubators. In the type of...
Our hatch did not fare as well. We have 4 chicks out of 8 eggs that went into lockdown...2 with lobster claws and one with no skin covering the top of it's head (brain exposed). I am going to put up a picture on The Silkie Site FB group for educational purposes. For now, I have to remove that...
I was getting worried that we seem to have some late quitters and aren't seeing much movement...but tonight we heard a few little peeps, thank goodness! Seems like overnight our air cells have gotten huge. Very odd to happen this quickly and it may be due to the cold and snowy weather...
Welcome! We are all in different stages of incubation and hatching. Sounds very promising to have so many eggs developing. Please keep us posted on their progress.
Hi Darla,
Day 18 should be fine. The aircell will go up and the embryo will be weighted down, which should give an optimum position for hatch. However, there are lots of folks who hatch in egg cartons with the blunt side up.. Doesn't look like we are going to have a big hatch...seems like we...
We tend to maintain 100 degrees for hatching. I believe other folks may turn the temp down a tad bit to 99 degrees. By regulating your temp at the level of the eggs, it will compensate for lack of a fan. You can lay a thermometer right on top of the eggs to monitor them. Typically, once we see...
Tomorrow is Day 16 for us. We stop turning, remove the tray dividers and lay eggs on their side. 8 eggs still look viable, but the active embryo in the video is now very quiet.
