    Look what I found!

I was outside earlier today and notice one of my 4 guineas were missing. I had a feeling something was up so me my Maddie dog walked around the pond near where the others were gathered and looked around. I walked by her about 4 x's and then once I told Miss Maddie to find the guinea she led me...

Barred Rock .... What gender am i?

    K. I ordered all pullets and 2 of my barred rock look totally different from one another. Is the one on the left a roo? I have not heard any "cock a doodle doo" yet so I am not sure. They are just over 19 weeks old. Why do they look so different from one another?

    Turkey Vultures

The past few days I have seen a few of them hanging around. This morning I walked down to the garden and I counted at least 10 of them that flew out of a tree when I got close. Will they eat my chickens? I always thought buzzards only ate dead things but they are making me really uneasy!

    Observations!

So I just wanted to share a few updates. I had 15 chicks and 6 guineas to start. They are a little over 13 weeks old. A few nights ago I decided that my guineas were being so mean to my girls I was gonna teach them a lesson and throw them out of the coop for the night. I left the run area...

    Quit pooping on my sidewalks!

My girls are now old enough where I go out every morning about 630 ish and open up the coop doors and let them "free range" as they wish until they tuck themselves in just before sunset. We have 10 acres of land and my "vision" for them was to have them free ranging in the backyard. Trouble is...

    Chicken manure poop tea

Well I have been experimenting with a special brew and I have to say it is working! I took a 50 gallon drum and filled a old pillow case with some chicken manure compost along with some molasses and epson salt and filled it about 3/4 of the way up with water. Everyday for 2 weeks I would go...

    Mites or normal feather loss?

I am concerned about some of my chicks! They were 1 month old today and I have noticed on ALL of my RIR that they have these little white feathers coming out around their necks! I also see a bit of this on one of my Barred Rocks. I went out to the coop tonight with a flashlight and looked to...

    Chicken manure poop tea?

I want to try this for my garden and want to know if anyone has and how they have done it. I have read that the chicken manure should be well composted but my chicks are only a month old. I have a pile of poo and pine shaving along with other composted things going right now but am wondering...

Putting 14 month old pullets with 3 week olds?

I saw an ad on Craigslist from a guy that is selling 3 laying hens. He said they are 13 months old and he has raised them from chicks but he has several more and does not need that many eggs. Now that we have our coop complete I am so excited to get some eggs I don't want to wait until Sep. to...

    Aviary Netting snow concern

We live in northern Wisconsin and winters are brutal and we get a lot of snow. I just ordered 1in HEAVY KNOTTED NET 25' x 50' aviary netting to go over our run. We are planning on peaking it in the middle with a telephone pole and then making some roosts for the chicks and guineas off of it...

    Worried about my RUNT! pic

I have 6 guineas that I am raising in a brooder along with 14 chickens. They are 2 weeks old today. Most have already doubled in size but I have this 1 little guinea that hasn't seem to grow a bit. She/he sometimes will just sit in a corner all by her/himself and doesn't seem as active as the...
