As I left for work at 1:30 am this morning sure enough I saw a huge owl sitting on a post of my chicken run. As I approached to investigate he flew off several of my chickens were out of the coupe. leading me to believe he crawled up in there and scared them out. anyways sure enough I had a dead...
I seperated mine from the flock and only feed yogert, scrambled eggs with olive oil. I also add some applecider viniger to her water. I keep her away from her pellets and scratch as it seems to feed the infection. Every morining I check and if her croop is empty and the foul smell is gone then...
Must be something in the air my rooster went off at 4:00am a couple of days ago. It was still pitch black out. I know cause I went out and knocked him off the roost. He stopped after that and hasn't done it since. I can justify him crowing at dawn but not 2 hours prior. Now that it's cooling off...
Great advice! Thanks I'm new to the chicken scene so everything helps. I'm at work now but will stop at the feed store on the way home. There is no broken skin and really no disfigurement that I can tell. That's what making me think/fear it's her back or hip. She has been picked by a couple hens...

Posted this on Injuries and Cures but also wanted to share with my Colorado peeps for their veiw and sudgestions.
One of my Austra Whites is/was quite an escape artist. Long story short she got out and was attacked by a dog. It looks like she took most of the attack on her lower back area. She...

Mine go in by motion light too! Maybe that's the key?
We make the coop our chicken's safe place. We don't catch them or try to hold them when they are in their coop. Once out side they are fair game for me and my kids. We also put their water and food inside once it gets close to time for them...
Orpingtons are listed as a quiet breed, but mine are the loudest in my flock. My Partridge Plymouth Rocks are my quietest followed by my Austra Whites. My point I guess is that even if it's a quiet breed, chickens are as individual as you and me. Your best bet is if you can get info from the...
I have 14 birds and built my coop out of a 4X8 shipping crate I bought on Craig's list for $70. I took the roof and 2 sides off and flipped them over and 180 degrees to make a 8X8 with 3 walls. I then built the front wall with a door in the middle and a pitched roof. Lastly added two 1 foot by 6...
I would use Great Stuff they have a can that doesn't expand. On the label it says for widows and doors. That would work depending how big the crack is.
Right now I just do table scraps, my chickens love our leftover corn cobs. your #1 seems like a good idea. #2 seems like a lot to endure for a little savings. I too am interested on what others might do!
