Free to Good Home - White Speckled Sussex Roo - KY Must pick up.

A friend of mine has a one year old white speckled Sussex rooster free to a good home! He is located in Louisville, Kentucky (must pick up!). Neighbors haven’t enjoyed the rooster crowing quite as much as they have, so they are looking to give him away. PM me and I will send you her email for...

Found the first egg! And the second...and third, and fourth...

OT - My dogs love eggs, too. So, I have to be careful that the baby hasn't left some out (my 2 year old). I just put an egg in the bowl, and they eat it shell and all.

Q.) Do chickens appreciate being picked up by humans???

I'm so jealous! Mine do not like to be handled at all. I have 5 Easter Eggers, but I purchased them at 4 weeks old from someone who hatched them and kept them in a large stall. They were not around people often. Just 100 of them running around in this stall. I think maybe next time I may...

    First dust bath

I didn't have to show mine at all. In fact, once they were let out of the coop, they scratched the grass up until they created their own little hole and bathed. They never had any older hens around to show them what to do. I think it's instinctive.

Must I get them from the run to the coop at night?

Quote: It took two weeks before mine caught on. I went to shut the door around 11pm, and they were all huddled together UNDER the coop rather than in it, so I had to pick them up and put them in. So, it's not always automatic. Now, they go in on their own, and I just go shut the door.

**UPDATE** Older hen attacked one of my pullets

I just wanted to update and say thank you. She healed up just fine on her own with just a bit of neosporin. Her feathers are back, and just a tiny scab is left. She does NOT like being alone. Everytime I come by she throws herself against the cage to try to get out. I tried putting her...

**UPDATE** Older hen attacked one of my pullets

Quote: So with this stuff I could take her out of quarantine? I think she'd love that. She does not like being by herself very much at all!

**UPDATE** Older hen attacked one of my pullets

These are all Americaunas. My poor pullet. They have been together for a week without any fighting at all. I opened up the coop this morning to let them out, and my beautiful black and white pullet has a large wound on the back of her head about the size of a nickel. The skin is just...

Coop on stilts plan; need feedback

Quote: Hi Brinda, Out of curiosity, what's the square footage of your coop and how many chickens do you have? As I have it now, there would be nearly 16 square feet in mine after allowing for the framing; 17 if I move the nest box outside. That would give me about 4 square feet per bird if I...

Coop on stilts plan; need feedback

I literally just finished building a coop similar to this out of 4x8 plywood. I made two large doors on the side that is tallest and noticed that my nest boxes are literally right there at the door. I didn't bother with opening the back of the nests like I had intended. I figured I would wait...
