    my first egg!!!

I know i was expecting a weird egg too! Opal is less than 5 months old so I wasn't expecting any eggs for awhile. My 7 year old cousin was chasing her around and then all the sudden there was an egg so we were joking that she scared it out of her!

    my first egg!!!

Here is our first egg that I am pretty sure was laid by my barred rock opal!!! Is it possible that a seven year old chasing them around could have caused it to come a little early? Next to a store bought egg, its just a little tiny thing :)

    chickens sleeping in nesting boxes

All 6 of my chickens are sleeping in one nesting box at night! is this normal? shouldn't they be roosting on the perches in there? They are not old enough to lay yet, but I worry that if they are all piling into nesting boxes that they won't lay in there.

putting new hens on roost with established hens after dark

has anyone tried this method? I am so afraid to try it. my 3 new girls have been beat up on a bit from my 3 older birds, and I am so afraid that if I put them in there I will wake up and find one or more of my new birds dead or badly hurt. I really want to get them out of the dog carrier that...

integrating new hens to my flock... not going well

I have been keeping the dog crate that i picked up the new girls in out in the run and they go into it at night to sleep and hide in there during the day. Is that good or should i have them sleep somewhere else?

integrating new hens to my flock... not going well

Hello everyone, I have been trying to introduce 3 new hens to my current 3 for almost two weeks now and it isn't going as well as I had hoped. The 3 old girls chase the new girls and won't let them near the food, even though I have set out a separate waterer and feeder. The main culprit is...

What breed and sex are these chicks? [PIC HEAVY]

I am certainly no expert, but number three kind of looks like a black sex link male because of the barring and coloring. number 4 also looks like a roo to me because of the big feet and wattle already

my coop and run... I need ideas for what else to do with it!

Hey everyone! here is my coop and run. we just bought a pre-fabricated coop and eventually want to build a new one. My husband built the run for me (he still has to add the roof) and my birds like it, but I feel like I need more things in there for them to climb on and hide under. Any...

Neighbor threatening to "take out my roosters"

some people are so rude! I say if you have 20 acres that are yours to do with what you want, then do just that! I would tell him that if he doesn't quit being aggressive about it that you will start raising primarily roosters and keep them in a coop as close to his house as possible!! that'll...

    EE roo or hen?

hehe I don't even mind him talking! I kind of like it, but my neighbor is a bit of a jerk and he will raise hell of I have a crowing roo in my backyard. I guess he must not hear his own dog barking at all hours of the night :/

    EE roo or hen?

This is my first time owning chickens and I was told that they were all pullets by the farmer I bought them from, but even the day I got them the bird in question just looked like a roo to me! He assured me she was not an alarm clock, but she has thick legs with what look like possible spur...
