I had a 4 year old broody hen. Since I don't have any boys in the flock I decided to make her happy and I let her adopt (unbenounced to her) 3 babies chicks. We put them in the nesting box with her one night and she woke up a proud momma. That was about a week and a half ago. Today it started...
Stacy's comb is healing. I hope it will stop drooping. She really needs to gain weight so she can hold her own when she finally gets back out to the coop. She eats, but not like I think she should. Any suggestions for helping her gain some weight and start feeling better?
Thank you so much @roseyred @21hens-incharge she's up walking around and eating today. I bought some cut heal liquid wound spray for her comb @dawg53 and some buttermilk to mix with her scrambled eggs. I appreciate all the helpful suggestions. She such a sweet ole gal. As you can see from her...
We brought her into the sunroom where she is sleeping on a heating pad in the dog's kennel. She had\s been drinking powerade and honey water throughout the evening. It's almost 5 am and she's still hanging in there. I'll get some nurti drench later on today. Thanks!
Thank you.
We are trying to get her to drink some powerade now. I'm afraid she's not going to make it at this point. My daughter has her on her chest with a heating pad and a towel. She will take a drink every now and then, but she barely holds up her head.
My heart is breaking.
So our poor, sweet 3 1/2 year old Leghorn, Stacy, who just recovered from a prolapsed uterus for the past 1 1/2 weeks is back in isolation. We noticed that the other girls had been picking on her after her absence, but she was holding her own. Well earlier today she was hiding out in the nesting...
She hasn't pooped very much. She's been in a dark crate on a low-heat heating pad. I haven't incerted my finger since yesterday when I was putting her uterus back, but no I never felt an egg. Her uterus was mostly pink.
I live in South MS where we normally have very mind weather, but not this week, of all weeks.
So Wednesday night my daughter was locking up the chickens and came in screaming, "Help, something's wrong with Stacy!" (her white, 3 1/2 year old, leghorn). I went out with her and discovered what...
Thanks y'all I thought that might be what they were trying to do, but I get really anxious about something being wrong with them. I appreciate your confirming my suspicions, and I will get a pan of dirt (at least until I can get them in their new coop/run).
Love the link to the treat page!
We take watermelons from out garden that aren't very sweet, cut them up, and freeze the piece then we give them to the girls in the heat of the summer. They love the cool treat. Also, I heard that pumpkin seeds were a natural dewormer. I don't know if that true...
From hdowden images I would say Barred Rock. If you have a very dark egg layer I would think there's a Cuckoo Maran in the mix. I'm having a similar issue and was thinking mine could even be a Dominique. In the past...
We "rescued" this girl when she was just a couple of weeks old. She was an unwanted gift and the receiver didn't know what to do, nor did he know the breed. We've had a number of different breeds in the past, but I have long forgotten how the determine what breed she might be. Her legs are black...
We had chickens for several years, but had to give them up when we moved. Now that we are starting over I have a concern. We only have four chicken right now and they just recently got all of their feathers. Due to some unforeseen life events the coop/run isn't ready for them so they are still...
