Hello BYC World,
My husband and I have a nice flock of chickens started. We rescued some battery hens to begin this adventure about 3 years ago and just fell in love with keeping hens. Then, came the roosters, one by one. We began hatching our own chicks this summer with some ups and downs. We...
That is horrible! I am so sorry for your loss!!!
From what you are describing, it sounds like it could be an ermine or weasel, raccoon, or fox. With the carnage you have discribed, I would think weasel as a likely culprit. They are known to kill everything in coop and come back to feed later...
I am so sorry for your loss. It is heart breaking when we lose one of these little guys. We just went through losing an entire hatch because of malfunctioning thermostat in an incubator- just terrible feeling. Then, we were surprised when a broody hen hatched 7 chicks for us from the main coop...
The chicks hatched yesterday, but NOT at all what I planned or how! This incubation was heart-breaking for us. I am so glad to have shared the experience with all of you, though!
I wrote about it http://lallybrochfarms.blogspot.com/2012/08/nature-versus-nurture.html

Hi there---
I cannot see the pictures you have uploaded, but I had a couple questions. Do your goats have hay or pasture available all the time in addition to the grain you feed? In my experience, goats need to be able to browse at will to maintain a healthy weight. In addition to fresh water...
I hope the medicine suggested works for you. I wish I had a suggetion, but I don't, sweetie. I think you are very kindly to try to help your sick chick. It shows what a good heart you have for trying. Please, keep us informed of what you are doing and whether or not she is progressing? If it...
This is good advice.
Wash your hands. Wear gloves, if you have them.
Gently clean the wound with warm water and sterile pad.
Apply neosporin to the wound. Diluted iodine is also an option.
Separate her until she heals.
Vitamins and electrolytes in water.
Keep her warm and draft free...
Yeah, between threats from the ducks, chickens, and goats, our garden is well fortified. Sadly, our grapes were not. The goats attacked first. Then, the nasty Japanese beetles. We gated the goats and treated the grapes with DE to kill the beetles, which surprised us by working! Out of the...
That is the way it happens, isn't it. Do you have a post about your set up or story? I love to read what others are doing- gives me ideas to make my husband shake his head at!
I highly recommend goats. They are wonderful creatures.
I, also, recommend STRONG fencing.
Thanks for checking out my blog. I am trying to grow it and it's following "members". I am always game to be a "partner in crime"- I will try to post more cute goat pictures and videos to help with...
What a great idea about the pump!
Our tomotoes are HUGE, too, this year. Must be just a good year for them? But, they are still all very green. My husband has been eyeing them for fried green tomatoes, but I am careful about doling them out, since I need them for the fall/winter/spring to...
We are still mid-season in Maine, so harvest is still months away. We did put up strawberries already, though. I am looking forward to making salsa, dilly beans, and homemade marinara the most.
I love blogging. It helps me to unwind and keep track of not only where we started, but also to see...
