    Piperazine-52

One of my hens got round worm so I just gave a dose of Piperazine-52. It does not say anything about not being able to consume the eggs. What do you recommend?

    Diatomaceous earth in a tire

I just put some diatomaceous earth in an old truck tire for our chickens. Our run is not covered. Will the D.E. be okay exposed to rain if I just want it as a dust bath for the girls? We used to have a spot by the house they used to be able to roll in but the coyotes swiped two so we can't let...

    Future roo or hen?

We just got new chicks a month ago. They are about 4 weeks old. Can you tell gender already? I am having a hard time even telling them apart, never mind the gender. We have 2 Cuckoo Marans, 2 Welsummers, 1 Dominique and 1 Speckled Sussex. #1 #2 #3 #4 #5 #6

    Dish Soap in Eggs

I have a yolk eater in my crew. Usually first thing in the morning before I get out there. I have read on the forum to put dishsoap in an empty egg. I only have green right now. Can they see color? How long do you have to do it before they change their behavior typically.

Laying more than once a day

I checked on the girls late in the evening and there was nothing in the nesting box. This morning there was 2 eggs and this afternoon there was another 4. I only have 5 chickens in the coop. Is this possible?

Match the Hen with the Egg

I think I now have four layers. I want to know who is laying what egg. Has anyone ever tried color hair spraying a chicken's bottom so it would transfer to the egg to identify? Someone suggested food coloring the vent but I thought this idea might be less invasive. If any of you are good at...

    Our Buckeye attacked by dog

Our lovely Buckeye named Lavender Brown was attacked by a Burnese Mountain Dog yesterday. I am not blaming the dog but my six year old who let the chickens out after repeatedly being told to not while this dog was visiting us. Needless to say, it was a hard lesson to learn for my daughter. The...

Yay!!!!! We got out first egg! But who did it?

After a long wait that seemed to be forever, we got our first egg this morning. I woke my daughters up, like it was Christmas morning, got their boots on and discovered the egg. They were thrilled. Then they asked, who did it? Hopefully, that's where you come in. It is a very pale brown with a...

"Thinking Egg, Thinking Egg" is the Mantra

We are so anxious for the first egg to come that we have decided to help the ladies out and show them how it is done. About a month ago, we closed off the nesting boxes because some of them got in the habit of sleeping and pooping in the nesting boxes instead of sleeping on the roost. As it is...

    Pooping in Nesting Box

I introduced three new hens into the coop that are a little younger than my others. They all started pooping in the nesting boxes and making a mess. They are not ready to lay eggs yet so I have closed off the nesting boxes so they do not have access right now. The oldest girls are about 14 weeks...

What are the Genders of these chicks?

First time having chickens and was under the naive impression I was guaranteed all girls because I was told they were sexed when the Easter Bunny brought them. We already have one obvious rooster out of the bunch but these four have yet to be determined. They are about 12 weeks old. Hagrid is...
