    How cold hardy are Guineas?

We have had a few cold snaps this winter into the minus teens. I have found that the colder it gets the closer the flock stays near the coop. On the coldest days most have stayed in the coop all day only to come out briefly to eat. I have a 125 watt heat lamp and find that some will hang...

    Broken/dislocated hip

Update: Gimpy is doing ok. She has been able to stand on one leg for a while now. The left let is pretty floppy. If it can heal maybe she can hop to get around in the future. I am not totally convinced that she will survive even if she is able to hop around well if/when she heals. My...

    Broken/dislocated hip

I have given her some homemade electrolyte and scrambled egg the last couple of days and she seems to be calm. Food and water are next to her as well. I will monitor for as long as conditions allow to see if she pulls through. Thanks for the info.

    Broken/dislocated hip

I saw one of the guineas limping yesterday and figured I look today and see if she was any worse. This afternoon I found her by herself flopping around a bit and not able to get to her feet. Upon inspection she looks to have a broken hip or dislocation as the leg is floppy and does not feel...

Coop and pen completed. Starting the free range training.

The Guineas are a little over 3 months old now. I started with 26, gave two away and had four die in the first week. The remaining 20 are looking good. Thanks to the forum for the wealth of information regarding brooder/coop/pen construction, how to get started and what works best. Here are...

    They're 12 weeks old now...

I have not been able to get them attracted to the millet, but they love lettuce. Mine hit 3 months this past week and I opened the door to the pen and coaxed them out with lettuce. What a nice sight. They hung around the yard most of the day and then hit the hillside for a grasshopper snack...

    Nipple waterers for Guineas

I started my keets on water nipples at 3 weeks. I took the waterer out of the brooder and by the end of the day they were hitting the nipples. They have been in the coop for a couple weeks with the transplanted 5gal bucket and 5 nipples. Next up, 5 more nipples to add and feed via a 55 gallon...

    Good Info Here!

Hello All, I am a neophyte Guinea rancher with 21 three week old Keets in the brooder and a 75% completed coop. I was at a loss for how to successfully setup the inside of the coop but then stumbled onto the Poop board convert *warning-graphic/gross poop pictures* thread. After gaining...
