That's another thing I liked about the Brahma's...that they would go broody. But that's also when we were still under the impression that Brahma roosters were generally so friendly and mild-mannered. In fact one of our girls just went through a phase for about 2 weeks when she was in the nesting...
Our Brahmas, that we ordered from Ideal Poultry, are going to be 1 year old this month. One of the main reasons we got Brahmas is because they're supposed to be so laid back and peaceful. We started with 6 3-day-old pullets and 3 cockerels. We re-homed one male almost as soon as we realized that...
Just a curious question here. Is too much greens bad for my flock at all? I work in a produce warehouse and bring home lots of cabbage, kale, collards, endive etc... and my birds go nuts over them . Also a few days a week I let them free range and they eat grass and weeds like crazy. I am not...

We have 7 brahma chicks. The hatchery was supposed to be sending 4 light pullets, 1 light cockrel, 1 dark cockrel and 2 buff pullets. We did lose one baby (reddish buff at 7 weeks) to a neightbor's cat, but I still don't think we have anything like what they were supposed to send...not that we...
Absolutely we will. I called around trying to find a vet nearer to us, but it seems chickens are second-class citizens in the vet world...places that advertise care for birds don't seem to include chickens in that. However, I have gotten a couple other numbers from my calling rounds, and I have...
Thank you for replying. It was about June 13th that the attack occurred. The area affected is the hock joint and below. She seems to feel a needle prick at or above the hock joint, but not below. Also, as she hops, she does attempt to paddle with the left leg, but it doesn't seem to bend so that...
A while back my flock got attacked by something. The only surviving hen had an injury on her belly, right by her vent. Her left leg was swollen also. We got her all healed up and she is looking good except her left leg is limp/lifeless from the swollen joint to her foot. She gets around good on...
About 2 1/2 weeks ago something got into our coop / run to help itself to our last hen and our rooster (who we had had since we moved in here...he came with the house). Each of the previous 2 weeks something had gotten in and taken a hen each time. This last time, we finally found the hole under...
Ok.... I see the faverolle, minus the beard. I see the grey gamebird, but feathery feet added...so Im sure you are right about him being a mix. I also came across something interesting on the internet...ISA Browns...

He is...and thank you
He's funny. If we go to pick up one of the hens and she squawks, he'll squawk and run at us flapping his wings, but as soon as he gets near it seems to occur to him that we are bigger than he is and he turns tail and runs the other way.
I really wish somebody knew what...
We are new to the world of Chickens this year. He and the Coop came with our new house the sellers were so kind to leave behind along with 2 Hens that are no longer with us. One got killed by a Predator, the other just died for no apparent reason.
He is very good at taking care of our new Black...
