Christie, I live in Maui. I have what they call centipede grass all over my lawn (you probably know what that is?). My chicks (7 weeks, 10 weeks & 12 weeks) NEED grass. I have been plucking it & feeding it to them. But I just lost one because she was eat8ing too big of pieces & it plugged her...
RIR are much friendlier to humans than Australorps. Australorps are skittish, RIR's are not so much. However, they do seem to pick on the littler ones. I love all my girls. My RIRs are the prettiest ones!
Thank you so much for your words :) Chickens are very good at hiding pain, as I learned last night :( I never would've touched her if she would've made a single noise. I just have to tell you one thing. God forbid anything every happens to your sweet little chicks, if you can't figure out for...
The best way I have learned to tell if my chicks are a roo is their voice when they get scared. If htey aren't used to being handled and run & squawk when you go to pick them up, the girl still tweet, the roos... sound like a rusty bike or the hose when you pull the handle for the sprayer. You...
Well I realized one thing. Everytime I would research her symptoms... all kinds of illnesses/diseases would pop up. When they are sick, they act the same. Unless you can pinpoint it for sure... take them to a vet. There are some treatments you can give them that won't hurt them but some that...
I was until I gave her Amprol treatment for coccidiosis. I'm sorry to say that I think she has passed. The stress must have been too much for her weak little body to handle. I am devistated by her loss & can't help but to think I am at fault. I will never try & heal them myself again. I feel...
I have a 7 week old Amaraucana chick named Sprinkles who's been sick for a week now. First I thought sour/impacted crop. But her crop goes down every morning. Then coccidiosis & it looked like a pretty solid case so I treated her & almost immediatley she started feeling better! The next night...
I posted earlier about my 7 week old female chick suffering from coccidiosis & now a HUGE squishy crop with air bubbles when I massage it. She won't eat much, she is still on Amprol for at least one more day. I want to get olive/mineral oil down to her crop but I am very scared I will do it...
Yes, I am still treating for cocci. I read somewhere that sprinkling dried milk on her food will make the PH in her tummy unihabitable for the cocci. But I could be confused as I have been researching every kind of illness/disease with these symptoms. I started her on the Corid/Amprol liquid on...
I know this isn't the answer to the problem, but have you been putting Vi-tal or Save-a-chick in their water? (electrolytes)? It won't cure anything, but it could help give them a boost & maybe a little more strength to fight this. I don't want to say i knwo what it is or even what it could be...
Thank you so much fro your response. Can I add Vi-tal or Save-a-chick while I'm giving her Amprol? I was told to hold that while I'm treating her with Corid for coccidiosis. I'm very new to this. I'm so scared I will have to make her throw up or use a syringe to make her ingest mineral or olive...
After a few days of my chick, Sprinkles, not eating as much as usual I realized she was all puffed up, head tucked in & tail down. Very sluggish as well. I thought it was sour crop but her crop so I removed her from the flock & took her inside. But in the morning her crop was normal. Then, the...
Please help! My 7 week old Amaraucana chick was sufferung from coccidiosis (I'm pretty sure). I have been giving her Amprol in her water & powdered milk onher food for almost 2 days now. She hadn't been eating or drinking. She was all puffed up, head tucked in, tail down. Then the white...
