Well if you are separating by color as some do then of course a smaller ratio is fine, but if you have several roosters in a coop at a lower ratio you get chickens with bald necks instead of fertile eggs.

They look like a mix to me but i could be wrong (maybe w/ golden comet). Also you are correct about sexes.
