I was originally...

    Our rooster just died!

Our speckled Sussex rooster 1 yr old, just suddenly died. No reason that we could tell. :( We noticed this morning that he had dried blood on his comb. We have never seen him fight with our other rooster, so I can't think of what could cause this. Over the winter he lost most of his comb from...

    Treating frostbite?

My roosters have frostbite on combs and wattles! Can I use neosporin/polysporin and aquaphor? Is there anything else? Can I keep them in the coop or do they have to be isolated? Any advice appreciated. :-(

Need Duck Advice! Winter is coming.... what do I do with the ducks?

We've had our pekin ducks, Harry and Sally since May (they were young, maybe 2 months old when we got them). They have been cohabiting with our laying hens fairly well, although my male duck will NOT leave the hens alone and both ducks are really bossy with the hens. They do go into the coop...

Pekin duck trying to mate with my chickens!!

I have 2 pekin ducks about 18 weeks, male and female. They have started the mating behaviors, and the female has been laying eggs the last three days. The male keeps grabbing my hens and trying to mount them as well! They aren't too thrilled about it, and I can't figure out how to get him to...

Cockerels and pullets are attacking the chick that was sick!

My little sick 11 week old chick has gotten so much better thanks to all the great advice! Her impacted crop seems to be all better now. It's been a week and a half that's she's been in the house recuperating from her crop issues. So I thought I would reintroduce her to the flock today... Big...

    Too Many Cockerels?

When we bought our day-old baby chicks this spring we knew that there was a (good) chance we would end up with a rooster amongst our laying hens, even though the backyard breeder we got them from tried to convince me she could sex them at 90% accuracy. HA! A rooster wasn't really in our...

    Foot injury! Need advice

Hi all, The other day a fence post fell and landed on one of my girls feet. She was limping pretty badly and the skin was torn a little on the back of her leg where it joins the foot. There was a small amount of blood, and I didn't want her to get pecked so I put a bandaid and neosporin on it...

    :-(

We lost one of our girls last night. (Red Sexlinks) There is no sign of why and the others seem fine and healthy. I have read here that they just sometimes die suddenly and there is no apparent reason. Now I'm scared we will lose more of them... I'm so sad. She had been fine and laying...
