Can you give me ideas about why my hen would be going bald? Midnight Majesty Maran, born around 8/6/19. Laying fine but also likes to gather the eggs under her, like going broody.
Catalina - I have just two chickens - an EE and an Austrolorp.
Volume904 - I did worry about the metal getting too hot, but I kept going to check it and it's fine. I had to replace the original one that was hanging down into the box and now I keep the new lamp hung up securely out of the...

rofl. I'm lucky DH didn't divorce me when we got back fromn the State Fair. See, there was a sale - 3 chicks for $5 - and my KIDS pooled their money together and bought them with my sister's help while I was somewhere else....
The chicks have done a lot of travelling and camping with...
Hi, I'm Tam and in Southeast MI - subdivision in Warren, actually. I'll be wading throught the posts to see who lives nearby

Our eggs freeze too, but we put them in the fridge and in a couple hours they're thawed and usable
Temps outside have been near 0 here and in the coop and nesting box down to about 10. The only thing I worry about is the water as it can freeze fast. I have a light shining under the water dish...
I hear that they don't lay as much in winter but something's working cuz we're getting eggs!
We've got the coop and nesting box under the pool deck
On the R is the nesting box and the L is the coop. Top is insulated by a wool blanket and comforter covvered by plastic to keep it warm.
Front of...
Our Easter Egger, Killer is a good layer! She just started this month and the temps are insanely cold! She is sbout 21 weeks now and been laying about a week.
And our Black Austrlorp just laid her first one this morning. What a relief because we were worried she was a rooster. She's also...
They're about five weeks old. I thought we had three hens and I don't know what breed the black one is. I've been told the other two are EEs. I think one of the EEs (Blondie) might be a roo? See Blondie in the first five pics..
And the black one?
I've one is a roo, he's up for grabs...
I know this thread is reeallly old - I'm reading from the beginning forward to get hints! My chicks seem to enjoy a small shower mirror I installed in the ChickNHutch. They whistle and sing to themselves and try to pile next to the "other chicks" when they go to sleep.
