The first one is a crumb block lap quilt I made for my parents for Christmas this past year. The second is a quilt made for a doll quilt exchange, that was supposed to represent where we lived (I'm in the California Sierra Foothills) and the third quilt is a Project Linus baby quilt I did last...
I'm pleased with this bird being a boy. The only thing I didn't want was a mixed gender bird, too hennish for protection, and too male for eggs. I think this is going to be the prettiest rooster I ever did see, and was kind of hoping everyone would agree that Gaz is a roo. I can't wait to see...
I have a black sex link that looks a lot like your first picture... she has way more gold on her than you normally see (mine does). Maybe yours is like that?
4 month old EE, sold as a pullet. Legs are sturdier than the other babies from this group, comb is bigger (yes, the comb is a 3 row pea comb, which also has been said to indicate boy) This bird doesn't crow at all, though? Is it just too early, and it will, or is this just a very rooish pullet?
When I did bumblefoot surgery on my Easter Egger last summer, I had to go way further into her foot than I expected to get to the plug. Maybe you have to go deeper. I seriously thought I was gonna come out the other side, and then I finally got to the infection.
Just a quick reminder not to jump to the predator assumption too quickly...
My boss hen, Brunhilda, went missing Friday evening. I thought I heard an odd, truncated squawk at about 5, and when I went out to coop them up, she was nowhere to be found. We searched high and low for Brunhilda...
We have a runner named 'Ping'. Of course, she has a counterpart named 'Pong', but 'Ping' was inspired by the story by Marjorie Flack. It's a great name.
Oh yeah, we have the whole set up... we've had babies before. I don't use a chick waterer, because I had a friend who had a bad experience with a duckling damaging it's beak with one. However, I had never had one that insisted on sleeping IN the water. Of course, being ducklings, in a week...
Oh, she's got a "sister" in there with her (Ping and Pong), but the Ping doesn't have the same fascination with swimming. And yep, they whistle and tweet to me quite a bit. Pong's a hard headed little thing, though! I can't seem to explain that she could drown while she's snoozing!
Do ducks sleep on the water as adults? I got a 2-3 day old runner yesterday, who insists on sleeping in the water. When I continually, over the course of the day, found her snoozing in the water dish, I added a large rock to the center of it, so they could drink properly, but not get in. I...
Okay, you duck experts... here's a ponderable one for you:
I have 3 Blue Swedish, about 2 weeks old. They have a playpen outside, which includes a swimming hole made out of a cement mixing pan. They spend the better part of the day in the playpen. Now, last night, when I brought them in, I...
I bought 3 swedish blue ducklings last week from the feed store. (2 females, 1 male). I actually went to get runners, but the store was out, and these guys were SO cute! Anyway, the feed store will have runners again tomorrow, and I'll probably go get a few little females. My question is...
