I really hope someone can help, our poor Dottie is not doing very well. 1) What type of bird , age and weight. 2 year old calif. white/ barred rock mix, not sure of her weight but she seems thin. 2) What is the behavior, exactly. Open-beak heavy breathing, just stands in one spot with wings...

    2 serama cockerels in NE-free

I have 2 serama cockerels/chicks that are 5 weeks old. One is black and white, the other is all black. These little guys are so cute! The black and white one tried to crow, I thought it was the dog's squeek toy! I would love to keep them, but I've got too many roosters to hens.

4 wks old fighting seramas! What to do?

I have 3 serama chicks that are all from the same hatch. I just put them in a larger pen a few days ago, and today they are fighting! I mean really fighting, not playing. I don't know what to do! Does anyone have experience with this?

Serama laying sporadically, now bloody egg

My 7 mo. old serama hen hasn't been herself lately. She usually jumps out of the cage to run around and is very perky. She's been less energetic and not wanting to come out. Today, she layed her second bloody egg. I also noticed she had really watery droppings today. I keep the seramas in a...

    silkie crouching and walking backwards

Our little silkie, we think is a hen, has been acting strange the last couple days. She will bend down with her crop near the ground and then back up several steps. She's been in the "Chick-n-Hutch" in the basement, recovering from a nasty attack by our Serama rooster. She is six months old and...

Do seramas mature faster? Crowing at 2 months!

Could it be?! My little serama started crowing last night! They are only 2 months old! He's got his comb and wattles, and one of the hens comb is starting to turn "orangish". Do they really mature that fast?

    Seramas, tiny but MIGHTY!

So, my three serama chicks are about a month and a half old now. I have a perfect little trio of a rooster and two hens. As tiny chicks, they made me fall in love with them. They loved to sleep in my hand. Ah, so sweet! Now, I realize, they just used their cuteness to get control of me. They...

    Lice, now hard yellow quills-advice?

Our two roosters had lice, which I think we've gotten rid of now. The smaller one really had them bad and his quills are still yellow and don't want to come off the growing feathers. Has anyone seen this before? He's a white silkie, so you can really tell where the bugs were hanging out on his...

    Couple questions about seramas

I've looked all over and can't find any info on the serama's flying ability. I assume, because of their size, that they are fliers. Will I have to clip their wings when I let them out in the yard? Also, when will I be able to tell the sex? They are only two weeks old right now. Ok, one more...

1 wk. old chick panting. Advise, please.

I have three chicks, I noticed one is panting at times. Should I be worried? I have noticed they all eat like crazy and usually have full crops. 1) What type of bird , age and weight. Serama, one week old. 2) What is the behavior, exactly. open mouth panting, rapid breathing. 3) Is there any...

Day 18 for my seramas. *UPDATE*pics&questions

Yep, day 18! I have 11 serama eggs in the bator, hopefully, getting ready to hatch. Some people say they take 19 days, some say 21, so I took them off the turner yesterday. I'm REALLY hoping they start hatching tomorrow! How many of you all have hatched serama and what day did they start...

As I was laying down to sleep this morning at 4am, I swear I heard our cockeral crowing. He's about 4 months old, is this the right age?

Bowl of water for humidity, or will chicks drown?

I have 11 serama eggs in the bator on day 15 now. I plan to take them off the turner on day 17, just to be safe. I've heard a lot of people have them hatch on day 19. So, my question is, can I put a bowl of water on top of the screen with them to increase the humidity? I don't want any chicks...

Is this guy doing what I THINK he is doing?!

We've had these two silkie chicks for about a month and 1/2 now. Johnny, the one facing the camera, we think is a male. Today when I went to check on the chickens he was trying to jump on Babs'! Aren't they too young for "that" kind of thing? They still look like babies to me!

    Barbie took a tumble!

I built a run for our two hens today. Not a great run, just something to make do until I finish a nicer one. We have an easter egger and a tiny white silkie we got from Rebecca at KLS Poultry. I was so excited to see the girls come out of the little red pop door I made for them! First Lupe, the...

    my first coop... finally finished!*pics*

So, I don't have any chickens, yet, but I started building a coop for our "planned" 3 silkie hens. It's 3'x2' floor space and just over 3' high. I have never built anything like this, and I'm using wood that was left in our garage. I need some input/advice! My idea is that a smaller coop will...
