Crap. I've been afraid of that.
In either case, whatever she has, I've decided to put her out of her misery, I just don't want it to be miserable for my wife and 5 y.o. daughter in the process.
I've had a hard time working up the nerve and figuring it all out, I guess.
Update:
I've kept her quarantined for the past couple of days. When I shake the food dish in front of her, she pecks at it, but when I put it down she doesn't eat much. She doesn't seem to be drinking much or any water, since her poop seems really solid and doesn't have the liquid portion of the...
Ok, just to follow up- no pictures this time (sorry). I had some time this afternoon so I took the two roosters back to the farm where they came from- Cornish mixed with Auracana. I brought home two hens this time, one leghorn and a hen Cornish/Auracana mix from the same brood as my original...
Is my assumption in 1 hen and two roos founded, though?
I'll grab the better camera and snag the birds when they're settling in for bed for some better pictures.
The biggest one has started crowing, and I caught him/her doing the rooster wingy dance this morning.... the first one pictured has been sick for the last week, but I'm pretty sure she's a hen, of course you wouldn't know it because she isn't laying, and the middle one, I'm pretty sure "he" is...
Also, I don't know if she has an impacted egg or not, I've checked by feeling around her lower abdomen, but it doesn't feel like there's anything stuck there. Do I need to poke a finger in her vent and feel around to make sure?
My guess is that this bird is 18-22 weeks old. Her poop looks like ground up grass clippings (probably because when she's in the yard she sits and nibbles at the grass) and normal chicken poop. Her eyes are bright, she's not panting and doesn't have any nasal discharge. She is eating some, just...
Also, how do I tell if my bird has Marek's vs. worms or some other issue? I don't want to jump to killing the bird, but I don't want to keep her around just to have the other birds get sick and die also. Thoughts?
Earlier this week I noticed my smaller hen stumbling a little bit as she walked, I didn't think anything of it until my wife looked on here and saw that stumbling chickens=bad news. I isolated herimmediately.
I read about de-worming, saw all the recommended stuff, went to feed store, pig swig...
Hi all! I'm new here, but I've referenced many threads while prepping for my chicken buying and owning adventure. I have 2 Auracana mixed hens and one something speckled mixed hen (waiting for decent weather to take pics to post), as well as a 4 year old 45 lb, runt of the litter Irish setter...
Ok. I'm not sure how old they are, but when I bought them (3 weeks ago) I'm sure the guy said they were between 16-20 weeks old, but they could be older. They don't seem to be eating the oyster because it's spilled all over, and they're usualy pretty tidy about eating EVERYTHING that they...
Hi all! New chicken dad here in NW Florida. I have 2 Auracana mixes and one...something mix hen (still not sure, will post pics later). I just wanted to check in to make sure I'm not going about this all wrong. I provide my hens a mix of oyster shell, cracked corn, steel cut oats, black...
