The vent holes are not made to prevent overheating. They are to provide oxygen to the eggs. If I am right, the egg that hatched was probably on the top. I would 100% suggest getting a hydrometer. You never know. It could also be as simple as that.

My temperature is currently at 101.2-101.6 for incubation. I know that it has to be between 99-102 but is this too high anyway? And if so, how can I lower it without turning the temp down because my incubator is old and I don't want to ruin my set temp?
