Look like Standard Old English Game to me. Possibly SOEG crosses since colors aren't true to form like a BBRed or Goldduckwing. But their stance and body shape sure look like it to me.
At 6 weeks they don't need to be too overloaded with treats, their main diet still need to be their starter/grower. I would keep the treats to a minimum till their 10 or 12 wks. Maybe some alfalfa or clover hay for greens.
It is usually caused by temp, too hot-too cold, draft or got scared and piled up on one another. Need to check temp, they should be laying comfortable under light like a chick rug just touching each other. No panting or no huddling. Keep cleanning their bottoms but most inportant need to get...
You didnt say anything about the cochin and they lay brown eggs and if just starting they would lay a small brown egg, and sometimes when a hen is just getting started they will drop 2 eggs in 24 hrs.
Your on the right track with keeping her locked up for a while at least till she lays everyday, like maybe till early afternoon if she's laying in the morning. may have to do it for a week or 2 before you get her in the habit of using the house. I would probably dispose of the eggs though since...
You should always introduce new birds at night. Chickens are VERY territorial and would rather see the other guy dead than have friends. they notoriously forget who they went to bed next too. If intoduced in daylight its very hard to ever get them to get along. Will probably need to take...
Were they laying before you moved them? The stress of moving them, changing their feed etc. could make them stop and put them into a molt. If they hadnt started before you got them they will probably start when they get settled in. Did you put them into the pen with the others in daylight...
The second one I say is definately a hen. Nice round feathers and none of the shiney bright colored feathers a EE roo will have. Which is why I too am suspicious of the 1st one, the red feathers on the top of the wings make me think maybe, but the rest of feathers are all nice and round like a...
I'm glad you found their original home, and I'd say they were both pullets. Comb is the last thing to look at on most breeds for sexing purposes, color, and sickle and hackle feathers are the 1st thing to look for. These were dark colored and had short round feathers on their bodies.
It is a pullet, probably very close to laying. RIReds get very red combs when they start laying. She has all short round feathers on her body. No saddle, sickle or saddle feathers on her. Positive all pullet.
Its definately a pullet, and a very pretty one at that. No sickle feathers or hackle feathers, legs are relatively short compared to body, and while he comb is a very healthy red its still small. So very good luck of the draw there.
That IS what I said. That if its not breed for a particular color pattern such as Wheaton, Black, Silverduckwing, Etc. then it is a E.E. But most of the hatcheries just take all the colors and run them together with no other breeds of chickens mixed in. dont know of a single hatchery that...
I am really impressed with your outlook and wish more judges thought that way, hear time and again about judges just jumping at kids telling them their birds are "crossbred" when a leg color might be alittle off, or feather color not quite perfect. Instead of explaining what was wrong with the...
Strombergs is a middle man they do NO hatching at all. look at your barcoded post mark, they where not shipped from Minn.. they are shipped from other hatcheries.
My Guess would be heavy on EE blood, he is pea combed, and does not show any waddle development like a bearded EE even though he has no beard himself, but also has more tail, and the longer legs of like a Saipan, Malay or Aseel.
Easter Eggers ARE Americanas, they have just not been bred for a particular color like Wheaton, Blk Brsted Red, White, Black, Lemon Blue etc. But instead are bred to be a rainbow of feather colors to make the backyard flock more colorful. That is the only difference in most hatchery flocks they...
